Enterprise Europe Network is hosting an event on 19 September aimed at explaining how to deal with the issue of intellectual property rights when doing business with the Chinese. China is well-known for intellectual property


abuse. A survey earlier this year by business and financial news network CNBC revealed that one in five of American corporations had seen their intellectual property stolen by China in the past year. CNBC estimates that some $600bn is lost to the American economy each year through this issue. Now Enterprise Europe Network has arranged


a special event to tackle the issue, and a spokesperson said: “Doing Business in China is both an exciting and vibrant experience for many, offering prospects for business which range from the design and manufacture of new products, right through to research, development and collaboration on joint initiatives. “However, while China can offer these


incredible opportunities for advancement, working in this market with new and innovative products can be a challenge. New innovation will inevitably bring the question of intellectual property and how to protect it, especially in a lively market such as China.” The event, at Chamber House in Edgbaston,


is being held in partnership with the official EU support agency for intellectual property in China, the China IPR SME Helpdesk.

Chamber-based Enterprise Europe Network is to help a delegation of Maltese information and communications technology (ICT) businesses find UK partners. The Maltese delegation will be attending


‘Channel Live’, a trade-only exhibition at the NEC on 11/12 September which is aimed at building business partnerships. The Maltese companies range from specialists in creating apps for cancer treatment providers to digital timesheets and everything in-between. Anyone who wants to link up with these

The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) is taking part in this year’s Medica trade show, which is being held in Dusseldorf between 18- 21 November. Medica is a world forum for medicine and medicine technology, and EEN will be holding pre-arranged one-to-one meetings between suppliers and potential customers at the event.

Qualification achievers become export experts

Export experts have been dubbed top of the class upon completing an export administration qualification, organised by the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC). Joanna Fiksa, from Creative Network


Consulting, David Timothy Davies, from In-Situ Europe, and Adam Harper from Ishida Europe were presented with certificates for completing the assessment for the International Trade Operations and Procedures (ITOPS) award. Mr Harper was presented with a separate


award, by the course’s leader Steve Townsley from Fidelitas, for obtaining the highest score on his assessment. ITOPS is a recognised international trade


qualification, which is being superseded by a new range of accredited courses which are going to be launched at next month’s Chamber Expo event. These new courses are accredited by the


British Chambers of Commerce and will cover all of the areas which the old course addressed, including administration, record keeping, documentation, transport procedures, freight charging, cargo insurance, legal requirements, packing and moving. However, the new courses will include a


greater emphasis on other vital export documentation, such as Incoterms, which are a


set of terms used to define the various obligations and responsibilities of both exporters and their customers.

can be confident in their ability to manage and decipher the export process themselves, especially ahead of the UK exiting the EU due to take place on 31 October.”
