Designer outlet getting connected

This summer has seen the latest evidence of how Cannock’s new designer outlet scheme is taking shape. The £160m retail development is the McArthur

Glen Designer Outlet West Midlands, which is due to open next year. During summer, Staffordshire County Council

has been undertaking the construction of a major road scheme which will provide access to the development. McArthur Glen has committed £15m to the

road scheme, which is taking place at Churchbridge and the A460 Eastern Way. The work will included turning Eastern Way to

a dual carriageway and creating slip roads to the designer outlet development. There will also be a new underpass and access to the site from the A460, as well as new footpaths and cycle ways. Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said: “The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands in Cannock is a hugely important development for Staffordshire and the wider region. “It will create jobs and bring visitors into

Cannock, boosting the local economy. Before this happens, the infrastructure needs to be in place and we are making every effort to get works completed as soon as possible.” Cannock Chase Council granted planning

Good prospects: Gordon Alcott in Cannock town centre with the development prospectus

approval for a designer outlet at Mill Green in September 2016, following extensive consultations with the local community, and construction began a year ago. On-site construction of McArthur Glen Designer Outlet West Midlands in Cannock started last summer.

Six parks win green awards

Cannock Chase Council has scooped six ‘green flag awards’ as a reward for its efforts in managing parks and green spaces in its locality. The Green Flag Award scheme

recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom – and even around the world. The scheme is managed under license

When it opens in 2020, this new landmark

retail destination and community hub will create 1,000 jobs for the local area. To capitalise on this, the local council has produced a prospectus outlining its plans for making improvements to nearby Cannock town centre. The council’s long term vision for the town centre is to create a culture and leisure Hub.

‘The redevelopment of Cannock town centre has been a long term aspiration of the council’

This could include an upgraded Prince of

Wales theatre, a series of high quality cafés and restaurants in the town centre, a new cinema complex, a hotel and a series of new independent retailers to complement the existing shops. Councillor Gordon Alcott, the council’s deputy

leader, said: “The redevelopment of Cannock town centre has been a long term aspiration of the council. The town centre has a poor retail offer – investment and redevelopment is badly needed in order to regenerate the struggling town centre. “It is important that we maximise the benefits

of the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Cannock, with its anticipated millions of visitors into the district, and to link this with the town centre. “Now the prospectus has been approved,

officers can start to engage with private sector investors and developers both locally and regionally and progress a launch event planned for October this year.”

CCTV firm gets contract to equip guide dog vans

Vehicle CCTV systems firm 6th Sense Technologies (6ST) has secured a major contract involving equipment for guide dog vans. The Rugeley based firm’s contract will involve supplying security cameras for 450 guide dog vans. The cameras will be installed in the roofs of the dog cages and allow the driver to view the images on a monitor on the van’s dashboard. Alongside the cameras, 6ST will be supplying

Cop Cemetery and Hednesford Park. Cannock Councillor Christine Mitchell said: “We are absolutely delighted to have retained the six

green flags for our parks and green spaces in Cannock Chase for the third year in a row. “We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining the green spaces in the Cannock Chase District.”

temperature probes and displays for each of the cages ensuring the welfare of animals while in transit. Dean Burgin, technical director at 6ST, said:

“This is especially important to us because we believe animal welfare is of upmost importance to us. “We are currently developing an alarm system

for a police force that will alert the driver of high (or low) temperatures within the dog cages.” 6ST is currently working on projects involving

Royal National Lifeboat Institution craft and police force patrol boats.
