Membership adds up for IT firm
A long-standing member of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) has explained why Chamber membership and maintaining their values has been crucial to their long- established success. Computaccount, based in bustling Harborne
high-street just outside of Birmingham, provides equipment, computer training, technical maintenance and encryption services to businesses big and small. Established and managed by husband and
wife team, Amit Jobanputra and Manorama Jobanputra, the 35-year-old business has been members of ABCC since the firm’s infancy. Computaccount joined just two years after the
Institute of Asian Business (IAB), now known as ABCC, formed in 1987 – meaning that the firm has been members for 28 years. During Computaccount’s first few years, Mr Jobanputra said that he heavily utilised Chamber services, especially networking opportunities. He said: “We did a lot of heavy networking,
and we still do a little bit of networking now. “That was a key thing, the Chamber of
Commerce also had a legal team which we could

meeting some of the people, exchange of ideas and news. So there is a certain amount of value there in the networking opportunities. We also
benefitted a lot from relationship managers and advice from them about marketing, selling and so on. “They gave us little pointers here and there,
like ‘how about this? Have you tried this?’ that kind of stuff. “We’re not sales people, we don’t always
come out and sell ourselves very strongly and in this day and age it needs to happen. “So our relationship managers did encourage
and help us with that.” Although the business has grown older, Mr
and Mrs Jobanputra are still passionate about upholding their values, even though the IT sector has changed immensely since they founded Computaccount. Mr Jobanputra said: “It has been up and down
and IT is a very fierce world. Just being here at the end of 35 years is great. “The sector has changed completely, and our
business has grown and shrunk but we have controlled it to an extent where we can manage ourselves properly instead of having enormous growth and then go bang, which I have seen happen to many other businesses.”
