YEAR 8 FRENCH ENRICHMENT CLUB
The French Enrichment club has been established to give students who have been identified as having strong linguistic abilities the opportunity to participate in a range of enrichment activities to allow them to develop their French skills further.
These activities have so far included developing their spontaneous spoken French by learning how to describe and talk about photos and preparing questions in French and participating in interviews. They have also been developing their listening skills by practising larger numbers and then listening to them being given at speed eg in prices, phone numbers, statistics). They have had an introduction to interpreting -listening to information in French and then explaining it immediately in their native tongue, which requires quick thinking and stamina!
This term the students have been looking at French cinema. They have watched a French film called ‘Belle et Sébastien’ and learnt about the Alps region of France, life in occupied France during the Second World War and the bravery of the French resistance in helping Jewish people to escape into Switzerland. They are currently preparing spoken film reviews in French.
Future enrichment activities will include taster lessons in Spanish.

“In French enrichment club we develop our linguistic skills and make our French as good as possible. At the moment we are watching a film called Belle et Sébastien. We are preparing a film review where we video ourselves speaking in French and sharing our opinions of the film. I really enjoy this club because it is really interesting to understand another language and be able to speak it fluently. The film we watched was an adventure film set in the Alps during WW2. It was interesting to see what life in the war was like for people in France.” Lilly Dimambro
