Year 10 (continued) REWARD EVENT

This year we have introduced a new competition element to encourage tutor groups to work together and get involved, to encourage the students to see that they all have a role in the success of their tutor group.

Each week we award points for the rank order of the mount of Core Value pints achieved and for the attendance of the tutor group. At the end of the term the points are totalled and the winning tutor group can choose either a cooked breakfast or pizza reward event.

10.2 celebrated a second consecutive win in term 2 but 10.3 prevented them from making it three in a row by beating them to the top spot in term 3.

Congratulations to both of these tutor groups, let’s see which tutor group comes in first for term 4.

TRIP TO RENISHAW

On the 4th of March, Year 10 3D Design ventured over the bridge to Miskin, South Wales to visit Renishaw.

‘Renishaw is one of the world’s leading engineering and scientific technology companies, with expertise in precision measurement and healthcare. The company supplies products and services used in applications as diverse as jet engine and wind turbine manufacture,

scale. Students explored 3D printers printing specific parts, production lines where parts are constructed, construction of the 3D printers. Yr10 found out about the range of careers available within the engineering industry. They explored other products made within the Renishaw factories, parts for the Blood Hound car, which is attempting to break the

world land speed record. Parts designed and used to rebuild human bones after serious accidents, precision measuring tools and their medical rooms where they perform miracles with technology. Within the operating rooms, they train future surgeons to perform ground breaking brain surgery.

through to dentistry and brain surgery. It is also a world leader in the field of additive manufacturing (also referred to as metal 3D printing), where it is the only UK business that designs and makes industrial machines which ‘print’ parts from metal powder.’

Year 10 students attended two workshops, looking at 3D printer design and prototyping models. Students attended workshops on how to work with Blue Foam, understanding how to use tools and equipment to make high quality models. Students also attended a basic introduction to TinkerCAD a CAD programme that links to a 3D printer, where students printed keyrings to practice those skills. Look out for their future designs and products from our 3D printer.

While at Renishaw, students received a tour of the site where they make 3D printers on an industry

The day was a rewarding one for all students and staff alike and here’s hoping one or two of our students may find there away into the engineering world.
