YEAR 9 YEAR 9

The year group have continued to move from strength to strength throughout the year and build on the solid foundations they have set from the start of the year. Many individuals are really getting to grips with their choice of subjects and starting to see the hard work pay off in regards to their results. The positives I’m getting in from staff have been numerous and nothing but complimentary of their efforts and attitude. This insight I’m sure will give individuals a better sense and understanding of what the subjects entail which will inform them more so when taking their GCSE option choices. This will have taken place on the 27th March and the deadline for the sheet to be handed will be April 26th 2019. Obviously this is and will continue to be an important process so please take the time to discuss this with your young person in the household and any questions or concerns please do get in contact with myself and/or tutor.

To go hand-in-hand with the options process individuals will also be attending a workshop held at school which will be taken by Bath Spa University. This will entail information about University life, the clarification of misconceptions and myths about finance and how to gain entry as well as possible careers after. Not only will this be spearheaded by the University’s outreach staff but our pupils will also be able to speak to current students so they can first hand opportunities to speak to individuals currently studying at University. Other days increasing knowledge of further and higher education lie further ahead including possible University day trips, workshops and discussions about apprenticeships and other pathways that are potential routes into employment.

The year group took part in a charity week in which we raised money for a great cause which was Cancer Research UK. Individuals dressed up in their Pyjamas and contributed towards the charity with some individuals going above and beyond raising some great totals. Michael Ashton, Molly Devine, Oliver Raynor and Megan Paterson all deserve special mentions in regards to the total sums they managed to raise ranging from £20 to £60, a huge well done to you. Following this the year group took part in a tutor group dodgeball tournament. This was a fantastic event not only due to the number of individuals taking part but also the spectators cheering on their own friends and tutor groups. A superb atmosphere was created, lots of fun

www.matravers.wilts.sch.uk was had and well done to eventual winners 9.1.

There are still many things to look forward to for the rest of the year. The celebration assembly just before Easter is being planned and the winners of each subject are being collated, prizes have been bought and certificates in process of being printed. Other aspects to look forward to include the Netball and Football tour to Barcelona, Spain in which many year 9 students are planning on attending.

As you can see from the chart above the achievement points are well and truly on track to beat last year’s total. We are exponentially increasing our totals and have doubled our total from the first two terms of year 9 and increased the totals in terms 3 and 4, with still a few weeks to go. Over 9,500 have been accrued throughout all the school values. An astonishing effort from all involved in the year group and a challenge to reach 15,000 is on.
