Year 8 (continued)
“I have entered a songwriting competition with Skye, Holly and Layla about the White Horse.” Amy Wheeler
“I played in a football match and managed to score a goal in it .” Ben Masters
“I loved it when we went to watched Awful Auntie and we got to have a fun time with our friends.” Skye Greatwood
8.2
“So far, Year 8 in terms 3 and 4 has been really exciting! Last week was charity week, in which my tutor group ran a ‘Sweets in the jar’ event. Previous to that, we had MBU2, and many of us were very pleased with our results. I’m really looking forward to the rest of Year 8!”

“This year I have achieved to get higher grades than I had before Christmas. I have been able to do this because I have been able to use the learning tools I’ve been given. I have also helped out in charity week and raised money for a worthy cause.” Phebe Williams
“Throughout these last two terms at school we have completed our second set of Year 8 exams and
although it was stressful, I overcame this and achieved more than I thought was possible.” Autumn Dempster
“8.2 have enjoyed a very successful couple of terms,
creating further bonds as a tutor group team whilst also taking individual responsibility for personal progress. We have explored many different topics and themes together, from friendship to forgiveness, and shared our views and ideas with the rest of the year group in assemblies that have been thoughtfully prepared and creatively delivered by the students themselves. Through a continued focus on achieving core value
rewards, overcoming academic obstacles and striving to be the best that they can be, 8.2 have continued to make the most of their Matravers experience as these last two terms have seen them growing older and
(mostly!) wiser, leaving the dark winter months behind and striding confidently forwards to see what the remainder of Year 8 holds in store for them.” Me (Cheesy, I know, but all true!)
8.3
This term has been a real test of character for 8.3 with the MBU2 exams coming right between terms 3 and 4. That being said, I am very proud of 8.3 and how they seemed to apply themselves to their studies, holiday revision and the determined way they approached
“This term Lily Morris and I put together a tutor assembly about drugs. We also played many netball matches and won some of them. We put together a teachers’ lip sync battle for charity week and lots of

each exam. We had some great input from some Group members for our careers assembly showing real ambition and consideration for their futures. As we head into the final third of the year, I ask them to remain focused, diligent and remember: When the going gets tough; the tough get going!
Mr Bunce 8.4
8.4 have continued being great over the past few terms, they went into their second round of exams with resilience and ambition to succeed. I am continually impressed with how my tutor group are growing as individuals. Many of the tutor have been taking part in extra-curricular activities which has given them opportunities to learn new skills and make new friends. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
Miss Stafford 8.5
This term 8.5 have worked together and supported each other in organising assemblies and a well- attended teachers’ lip sync contest for charity week. Well done to Alicia, Harrison, Grace & Lily for organising our assemblies this term on Drug and Forgiveness. All of the students in 8.5 are being ambitious in lessons, allowing us to continue to lead the overall core values thus far.
Having taken over this tutor group just before Christmas, I can say what a pleasure they have been and I hope they continue to surprise me with their endless endeavours outside of lessons. When I walk into extracurricular activities around the school it is amazing to see so many of 8.5 participating in Art, netball, coding club, French club and the Combine Cadet Force, to name a few. Well done 8.5 on your hard work this term.
Miss French “This term we have played netball against many school
in our area, beating John of Gaunt and Kingdown 11-1. We have worked well together and helped share ideas for our assembly. After we completed our textiles exam, we have now progressed onto food we have gone over the main food rules and in the next few lessons we are going to begin cooking! “ Ruby Ladd
