WEST WILTS DANCE FESTIVALThis years West Wilts Dance Festival was based on the theme of … love. Taking place over the days leading up to the romantic 14th of February, each school took to the stage to represent love in their own way. Endurance and KickStart Dance Companies represented Matravers School this year with their own take on ‘love’. For KickStart, the looked at the queen of love songs Aretha Franklin and her soulful approach to love. It also explored Miss Richards own personal memories of dancing around the kitchen table with a hairbrush, singing her songs. If that isn’t a memory of love, then what is? Endurance however, took a very different approach. Using a rope, they explored the idea of ‘Tug of war’, the thin line between love and hate and how we are constantly move between these two states as we grow up and meet new relationships.
The show was a huge success with some strong performances and excellent focus and dedication from Matravers Students. Yet again they all proved how strong dance is within Matravers and the excellence that the community has come to expect from their performances. A huge well done to all dancers involved, you are a credit to your school and the dance department.
DANCE IN ACTION 2019
The dance departments annual ‘Dance in Action’ is something students and staff at Matravers really look forward too. Each year A Level and GCSE choreography and performance work is performed to a large audience, preparing them for the up and coming exams which are fast approaching. Alongside this, we also include performances from our year 10 dancers who show their incredible classwork and finally performances from our many dance companies. Musicality are performing a Mary Poppins inspired piece which is ‘Trip-a-little-light FANTASTIC’! Endurance and KickStart share their work from West Wilts Dance Festival also. This event will absolutely be one of the highlights of the Matravers School calender. Congratuations to all dancers involved.
3FALL DANCE COMPANY WORKSHOP AND PERFORMANCE
Matravers Dance were delighted to see the return of 3Fall Dance Company to Matravers for another year of excellent and exciting workshops from the University of Chichester. Students from the University who dance for the MA Performance company 3Fall, shared repertoire from their most recent works. This year however, Matravers was selected to be the curtain raiser performance for their evening show. Students performed to open their show which was a huge honour to be involved.
