READING BUDDY SCHEME FOR YEAR 7 STUDENTS

The sixth form get involved

Reading Buddies is a scheme which has been set up by Inclusion to support year 7 students with their reading. Sixteen sixth formers kindly volunteered to become reading buddies this year and they have proved to be an exceptional group of young people. Every Wednesday they have the room set up early and are organised and ready to start before their year 7 readers turn up. They have created a really positive atmosphere for the younger students to learn in and this is a reflection of the commitment and effort these sixth formers are putting in to the scheme.

Tia Fear, 6.1, comments ‘Every week, seeing the young students faces brighten up when they leave the reading buddies group is one of the main things that brings me joy. It is so great to see the massive impact a small project like this can have on a young person’s future and I am honoured to be a part of it’.

The year 7 students enjoy reading buddies and when asked to make a comment for the newletter ‘fun’ was the word that came up the most. Xenia King said ‘My reading buddy is nice and funny!’, ‘Madeline Bennett commented ‘I love doing games and reading with my buddy. Its fun’, Alex Edler said ‘Its good, I like it and it has helped me with my reading, Taylor Plummer commented ‘Its fun and it helps my reading improve’. Aleesha Parker says ‘I really like reading buddies and I find it fun’ and Lilly May Royce comments ‘reading buddies is good and funny’.

Well done to all the year 7s and to Xenia and a big thank you to all the sixth formers!
