Year 7 (continued) NETBALL

The girls have been training hard since September and finally it has been their turn to play fixtures since January. We started off the season a little bit wobbly trying out pupils in various positions, often changing this on the spot. Eventually we found the best positions for each individual and was able to watch the team flourish! I am immensely proud of the girls who have demonstrated such strength, resilience and determination - I am looking forward to seeing how they get on in year 8!

Well done girls!

FOOD SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

7.2, 7.4 and 7.6 were challenged to conduct an investigation into which chemical raising agent would produce the lightest, fluffiest cheese scones. After a little time researching why we use raising agents, the chemical process that happens when they are used and the different types available the students worked in groups to develop a hypothesis and then to observe and measure the reactions that occurred. Firstly by watching the mixtures of water and each of the raising agents to see which “fizzed the most” and then by placing a balloon over the neck of the bottle to see which produced enough carbon dioxide to inflate the balloon.

The students demonstrated excellent team work skills and fully engaged with the task using the results to help them produce delicious scones in their next practical lesson.
