YEAR 7
The year is flying by and I cannot believe it has been six months already since year 7 started! I have really got to know the pupils in the year group well, and I am really proud of the way they are evolving as individual learners and a year group.
ATTENDANCE
Each week in assembly I share with the year group their attendance. We look at attendance as a year group and compare this to other years, we compare each year 7 tutor group and even ask individuals if they know what their current attendance is.
Since September year 7 have been rewarded a number of times for their attendance through reward breakfasts, trips, certificates and chocolate!
Since January year 7 have been trying to improve their attendance to enable them to attend the reward disco on April 3rd. This week the first batch of invites were issued in assembly for pupils who had 100% attendance. Well done to the following pupils:
Sophie Biddulph, Grace Bishop, Owen Brown, Faith Collings, Fiona Coward, Riley Craig, Flynn De Burgh, Joe Devine, Mikolaj Dusza, Maisie Edmondson, Ameila Fear, Lurdes Ferrira Carvalho,Katie Gillett, Halima Khanom, Ryan Lanfear, Freya Laville, Julia Michalak, Anna Midgely, Olivia Minty, Joe Morgan, Freya Noakes, Sophie Norcott, Oliver Pearce, Abby Price, Chloe Shore, Emma Stevens, Callum Walcroft-Hall, Thomas Weston, Ruby Yates.
If your child is absent please ensure that you contact the school to inform us. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss the reasons of absence further please either contact myself or Mrs Thorne (Pastoral Manager).
CORE VALUE POINTS
Each lesson pupils are able to achieve one of the schools core values; Ambitious, Happy, Successful, Resilient, Creative, Dynamic. Each week I add up each tutor groups core values points and share them with the year group in assembly.
Since January year 7 have been working towards a tutor group reward trip to go bowling and also as individuals to be invited to the Disco. We still have a few more weeks to go but from the graph below you can see currently 7.2 are in the lead. The year group are

I believe it is really important that the thoughts, wishes and concerns of the pupils are listened to and acted on where appropriate. I have had two meetings with various groups of year 7 pupils this term to give them a chance to share their thoughts on exam week and also school life in general.
It was great to hear the pupils say that they were feeling challenged in lessons (although they did not see this as a positive!) and that they felt prepared for exam week using the revision guide and materials given by different subjects.
Pupils expressed that they would like more to do at lunchtimes and therefore I am setting up a Year 7 only club in the Sports hall on Tuesday lunchtimes. Pupils can come along and play sports or just sit in and chat with their friends. Not only is this a great time for me to see them all and interact with them but also a time to reinforce their bond as a year group.
Pupils also said that they knew who they could talk to in school (myself, Mrs Thorne or their tutor) but that they didn’t always find it easy to open up. I have now put a ‘Concern box’ in the LRC where pupils can write down any concerns they have and post them in the box. Initiating a conversation and having the courage to speak out is often the hardest part so I am hoping that this box with help to make this easier.
I will be meeting with pupils on a regular basis throughout the rest of the year and I look forward to listening to their thoughts and ideas.
definitely competitive and love a good challenge- there is still all to play for!
