FOREWORD
Welcome to the Easter issue of The Matravers Newsletter.
It is always a pleasure to look back on the second term at the continued successes of our school community. I hope you enjoy reading about what our students have been up to over the last two terms. There is a rich diversity to life at Matravers.
Front Cover
The stunning image that adorns our front cover is taken from the wonderful Combined Cadet Force expedition during the half-term break to the Alps. Our Cadets spent a week snow-shoeing and generally having a brilliant time together. It is for transformational experiences like this that we established our Combined Cadet Force 3 years ago. Since then, it has grown substantially and we are always ready to welcome new recruits. We were recently asked to take part in a review of CCFs by the Department of Education, being interviewed as a model of good practice.
Site Master Plan
Our transformational building programme continues to progress extremely well. You may have seen our “topping-off” ceremony that was recently reported in the press. The external shell is completed and the internal fit-out is progressing ahead of schedule. We are now raising additional funds through community and business contributions to ensure that the internal equipment is also or world-class standard. If any parent would like to contribute or knows of business that could help, please do get in contact.
I am also pleased to report that the £1,000,000 project dedicated to replacing the windows within the Main block is finally underway and making progress.
Exam Season
All students have recently completed internal exams and have performed very well. Younger year groups are making excellent progress through the school and are on-track to meet our aspirational targets. We are also progressing rapidly towards the external exam season. As exams draw closer once again, I would remind our students of what can be achieved through hard work, especially the kind of focussed revision and practice that takes place in the final weeks. I encourage anyone who is seeking motivation for their studies to reflect upon the successes of our students in the past. Working with their teachers and taking responsibility for their own progress will bring our young women and men the rewards that will unlock the doors of opportunity in the future. Our students can and will be successful as we all support and guide them through this challenging period of their lives.
Easter Greetings
My best wishes for a wonderful Easter; try not to eat too much chocolate!
