LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE
March is my favourite time of year in the LRC because it means World Book Day. This year the theme was Magic, Monsters and Myths.
Lots of staff and student took part and embraced the theme with gusto.
The English department picked the theme of the Seven Deadly Sins, with each member of staff coming as a different sin. Humanities dressed as characters from The Lord of the Rings and the Admin staff looked fantastic as The Gruffalo. Music came as Thing Number One and Thing Number Two from The Cat in the Hat and Science did a fantastic job as the Harry Potter characters too.
Matthew won a £10 voucher and Alicia and Molly won a £5 voucher each.
R.J Barden in 8. Correctly guessed who all the staff had dressed as and won a £5 book voucher.
The Tea Read had a valentines theme as it took place on the 14th February. Miss Chesters, who had a group of students to help her, baked the cakes and treats. Therefore, special mention must go to the following students:
Miss Hughes was dressed as Medusa and Mrs Anderson as Aphrodite. Ms Derwas also looked amazing as Mildred Hubble from The Worst Witch.
The students who dressed-up all did a fantastic job too. The first prize went to Matthew Clinch in 10.1, who dressed as Jekyll and Hyde. Second place went to Alicia Renton who was the golden snitch from Harry Potter and third place was Molly Brooker who was Peggy Carter from the Marvel Graphic Novels.
Jess Mitchell- Collet Summer Mitchell Lola Waldron Ereena Ullah Kiera Strachen Bryony Patton-Cuff Lilia Adlaoui
The cakes tasted lovely and everyone who attended were really impressed.
On the day, I also had Georgia and Grace Perry helping take orders and serving drinks too. So I would like to say a big thank you to them too.
Lots of Matravers students attended and some brought brothers and sisters too. We also had some students from out feeder primary schools coming along. It was, as usual, a lovely occasion with students, parents and carers, enjoying reading with each other.
The final Tea Read of the term is on the 6th June and all are welcome.
DOUBLE WORLD MILLIONAIRE
Anna Midgley Year 7 has become the first double word millionaire of this year, in March. This means she has read a two millionaire words since the September. Well done Anna.
