New partnership to tackle rising city centre crime


Concerns over rising crime and anti-social behaviour in Birmingham city centre have led to the formation of a new organisation, City Safe, to tackle the problem. City Safe is a partnership


New Centre of Excellence


King Solomon International Business School is proud to announce the launch of its Centre of Excellence. The school aims to equip its students with the intellectual, attitudinal and entrepreneurial skills required of senior positions in international businesses, charities and public administration around the world. King Solomon is the only school in the UK with such an aim. The Centre of Excellence is


led by a dynamic team within the new faculty of the school. Dr Gregory Roberts and Bhanu Dhir were appointed in September to help implement the innovative strategic objectives. We are ready to provide


support to teachers across the UK on how to embed enterprise into the curriculum and we are talking to parents on how they can help their children’s entrepreneurial development. We are ready to help businesses with creative solutions to their issues. Bhanu Dhir, former President


of Wolverhampton Chamber of Commerce, said: “I was dismayed when the British Chambers of Commerce published survey findings a few years ago that showed how few business leaders thought children leaving school were fit for work. I am pleased to be working with Gregory to turn this around, at least in Birmingham.” The school is looking for


local organisations, who operate internationally, to get involved as sponsors or as contributors of examples of best practice in international business.

are being given digital radios and access to a secure two-way network and text messaging system, which will give them the ability to report any issues immediately. The new radio network has


already been trialled by 45 BID members. The system has already proved itself - within an hour of the trial starting, City Safe identified a criminal who was apprehended and found to be in possession of £6,000 of stolen goods. City Safe is a member of the


National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP) and is being managed by Jonathan Cheetham, formerly general manager of the Grand Central and Pallasades centres, and a previous

becoming increasingly concerned about business crime and the impact of anti-social behaviour on the safety and wellbeing of their staff, visitors and customers and asked for our support to combat these issues. “City Safe was created to deliver


a solution, recognise and take ownership of issues, with its sole purpose being to support, assist and strengthen the effectiveness of


our members in resisting the burdens to wellbeing, safety and profitability which business crime imposes on them. “We are harnessing the latest


technology, giving our partners communication via a digital radio network with instant text- messaging ability coupled with a secure digital data and imaging system enabling clear identification of issues.”

Birmingham Assay Office has appointed Carol Brady at its new chairman. She succeeds Kate Hartigan, who


retired in October after 14 years as guardian and six as chair of the Assay Office. Kate said: “There have been some

The Ronald McDonald House Charities Birmingham gala dinner smashed its ambitious fundraising target with £150,000. The event, sponsored by npower business solutions, attracted more


than 520 guests. The funds raised will help to provide over 6,000 nights of free


home-away-from-home accommodation for families of children receiving treatment at specialist children’s hospitals across the UK including Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce patron Douglas


Wright, who is chairman of the board of governors for the region, said: “It’s clear that the city and wider region have really taken us into


their hearts and we were overwhelmed by people’s generosity. “Since I became a Chamber patron our income derived from this


event has risen by a staggering 72 per cent in just two years, demonstrating the power of making genuine business connections and working collaboratively. I would like to thank the regional fundraising team who put on a brilliant event for everybody.”

the board of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and is currently the non-executive chair of the board of the Claims Management Regulation Unit for the Ministry of Justice. Carol was awarded an MBE in June


2016 in recognition of her services to consumers and better regulation. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.
