A tight game in Whitegate last
Tuesday evening, with both teams delighted to get a
good testing 90 minutes under their belts before the season begins on the
17th of August. Corkbeg
held a deserved lead at half time; the goal com- ing on the half hour when some good work by Alan Hogan was side footed to the net
from ten yards by Tariq Tynan. But, Midleton rang
the changes and were much improved in the second period, with three second half goals
from Stephen O’Brien, Charlie
Whalley and
Andrew McMahon, that saw Midleton pro- gress to the semi-final. A good workout none the less. Good luck to
Midleton in the season ahead.

SARSFIELDS will play
Blarney in the semi-final of the Cork ‘Premier 1 MHC’ following their vic- tory over Ballincollig
in
Carrigtwohill on Monday evening in a game where Sars hit the crucial points at the right moments to keep themselves just out of reach. There wasn’t a whole
lot between the sides in the game, but during a five minute period in the final quarter, Sars hit five points over without reply and that was the difference between the sides in the end. The teams were

before Sarsfields Daniel Allen pointed from play and they extended further through Murphy. Then a freakish mishit
’65’ from Coome crept into the top left hand cor- ner of the Sars goal to nar- row the gap to just three points, but Hogan tidied up the first half with a ‘65’ and another very well taken placed ball effort to leave five between the sides at the break. On the resumption Ball- incollig had the aid of the breeze and despite con- ceding an early point from Murphy, they hit back with three Coome frees in a three minute spell. Sars rallied
through
Captain Killian Murphy with another point, but then
Ballincollig
with two points. Ballincollig
level
three times on the eighth minute, but then a score from play from Alex Mur- ray and Daniel Hogan’s third point
put a
space between the sides. Paul Coomey pointed
back for Ballincollig, but then three
unanswered
scores from Sars gave them a four point advantage. There were exchanges of points from both sides
hit
two more, but on the 48th minute Colm McCarthy started a run of five points without reply for Sars and even
though little
did get a late goal and four points, Sars had enough in hand to see this one out with two late points of their own.
