47 Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 3

Castlemartyr 4-18 Glen Rovers 2-16

Castlemartyr took on Glen

Rovers in Carrigtwohill, last Sunday evening in Round 3 of ate

the Cork Intermedi- hurling championship.

A good win over Argideen Rangers in their opening contest has seen Castlemar- tyr safe from relegation, so all of their efforts were con- centrated on reaching the 4th

round. With Cork senior panellist Brian Lawton leading the way, young guns like Jamie Stack, Liam and Cathal Martin and Michael Kelly took the game to Glen Rov- ers second side and while the city men hurled well, the greater craft of Castle- martyr saw them through in

the finish with Barry Lawton the outstanding forward on view, finishing with 2-10 to his name. Glen Rovers had im-

pressed against Ballinhassig, but on this occasion they found Castlemartyr too hot to handle. Conor Dorris and Barry Hackett who was unerring from free’s kept the Glen in

touch in the

early stages, but once Sean Hennessy goaled in the 12th minute, Castlemartyr began to take over. Barry and Brian Lawton were landing points

and at half time Castlemar- tyr led by 1-11 to 0-8 after good points from Hackett and Donal Cronin just about kept the Glen in touch. On the resumption Cas- three

tlemartyr hit quick

points and while Conor Dor- ris did find the net for Glen Rovers, their joy was short lived as two minutes later Liam Martin struck for a splendid goal for Castlemar- tyr. Their next score was also a goal with Barry Lawton blasting to the net and now Glen Rovers hopes began to

fade. A 4th goal again from

Barry Lawton made victory safe. Castlemartyr were now in control with Barra O’Tu- ama, Cathal Martin, Adrian Bowens and Daragh Moran solid at the back and while David Cunningham did get a second goal for Glen Rov- ers, it mattered little as Cas- tlemartyr had this game well wrapped up long before the final whistle.
