Cork Senior Hurling Championship Round 2
Bride Rovers 2-24 Na Piarsigh 0-17
The second game at the
Midleton venue on Sunday brought last year’s defeated semi-finalist, Na Piarsigh and Bride Rovers into op- position. Bride Rovers were heavily defeated by fellow East Cork side Erin’s Own in their opening outing back in April, so they were de- termined to put up a better showing on this occasion. They certainly played a lot
better this time round and surprised many by the com- plete transformation as they literally blew Na Piarsigh away with a fantastic open- ing quarter. Brian Roche, Daniel Dooley, Barry John- son and Shane O’Connor were all on fire for the Rovers in attack and when Shane O’Connor hit the opening goal it was just the start that Bride Rovers wanted. While Gordon Joyce and
Evan Sheehan pointed for Na Piarsigh, they never looked up for this contest as Bride Rovers were winning all the dirty ball and they kept tagging on points with Dan Dooley, Einne O’hEo- chaid and O’Connor leading the way, Rovers led by 1-8 to 0-5 after the opening quar- ter. By half time they had
extended their advantage to eight points as Michael Collins, Doole and Brian Roche hit points with Einne O’hEochaid booted the ball to the net to send Rovers to the interval leading by 2-12 to 0-10 as Evan Sheehan and Patrick O’Rourke kept Na Piarsigh in with a shout. It was expected that Na
Piarsigh would be better in the second half, but instead it
transpired that Bride Rovers that it was stepped
up their game, especially in defence where Brendan Walsh, Shane Walsh and Brian Murphy were superb. In attack Brian Roche, Dan Dooley , Barry Johnson and Cian O’Connor had some superb points and long be- fore the final whistle, Na Piarsigh had given up the ghost.
Bride Rovers coasted
through the final quarter pushing their points tally to 0- 24, while Na Piarsigh were a dejected side by the finish. Bride Rovers move on and certainly no one will fan- cy drawing the Rathcormac outfit in the next round as Bride Rovers have certainly got their challenge back on track.
