50 East Cork “Second Half Goals The Key To Dungourney Win”

Dungourney 2-18 Tracton 0-18

Dungourney took on

Tracton in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday evening in the third round of the Cork Interme- diate hurling championship and after a terrific contest the East Cork side held out for a memorable victory. In a game that ebbed and flowed throughout the opening half where the sides were level on no less than eleven occasions, Dungourney, went to the in- terval holding a slender sin- gle point advantage 0-12 to 0-11.

In that opening half

Shane Hegarty, Dara Ahern, Bill Ahern and Ryan Denny were to the fore for Dung- ourney, while for Tracton, Conor McGuiness, Sean O’Sullivan, Daniel O’Fla- herty and Ronan Walsh were in the thick of the scoring action. On the resumption, the action continued at pace with Dungourney getting a huge boost when Sean He- garty raised the first green flag in the 33rd

minute.

While Ronan Walsh con- verted two Tracton frees and

Daniel O’ Flaherty landed a point from play, Dungourney were never headed as Ryan Denny landed a point, be- fore Dungourney got in for their second goal. This time Ryan Denny made a strong run forward, before parting to Dara Ahern in support and Ahern finished to the net in style to open up a five point gap, the biggest of the match so far. Daniel O’Fla- herty and Sean Good pulled points back for Tracton, but each time Tracton came close Dungourney managed to pull clear. With Niall Motherway,

Bill Ahern and Mark Hegar- ty all starring in defence for Dungourney, there was to be no way through on goal for Tracton. Points from Martin Hennessy, Shane Hegarty and sub Shane Casey closed out a really impressive Dun- gourney win and they can now look forward to a 4th round clash with Blackrock in confidence as if they play this well again, they would be contenders for outright

victory. Dungourney: R Denny
