granite or quartz suppliers laser template for the worktops. They are back within the week, if we are not making a timber worktop, to fit. This means we all finish at the same time; we can install the wall units and any other parts of the kitchen, whilst the worktop is cut to size and fitted. Lastly we hand finish the paint work on the cupboard doors. It is around 10 working days normally. During the design process, what is your favourite part? Leaving my customers satisfied with a kitchen design that is unique to them is the best feeling but actually I really enjoy the whole process. From the initial design, through the whole manufacturing process, to ensuring the installation is done to a high standard. My main focus when creating a prestigious new kitchen is listening to what the customer wants and using my experience to guide and help them, resulting in a room they can be really proud of, and what is usually, after all, the heart of the home. You have recently moved premises, where are you now? Our new larger premises are in Bowden, with 2000 square feet of floor space, which makes the build process more efficient. I can actually walk around my equipment, rather than squeeze past it. There is a new spray facility here as well, which has made the painting process much smoother. Have you ever had a customer ask you to make something unusual? I was asked to fit out a hull for an open Cygnus 19 boat once, which had teak decks, heavy Iroko capping rails, seats and lockers. The

end product, although incredibly time consuming, was well received and the boat is happily moored in Totnes. How many coats of paint do you apply? For each bespoke painted kitchen we apply 2 base coats, 2 top coats and then we hand finish the kitchen on site, which gives a fabulous depth to the colour and texture. It takes time to build up a hard wearing surface which also means the end product is very durable.

Have you ever had any disasters? Not so much disasters but from time to time things do go wrong. The most important thing is to put it right without hesitation. What makes you different from your competitors? We are a small business offering an exclusive, personal service in the South Hams at a very competitive price. Everything is made in our Dartmouth workshop to your exact requirements.

Do you make anything else? I make a range of storage cabinets and wardrobes; always a favourite in Dartmouth as space is usually at a premium! But we also make bathroom furniture, home offices and any individual bespoke items, depending on what our customers need. Do you have any other people you work with? Yes, I have a band of merry men who assist as and when required for assembly and installation, a dedicated painter who hand finishes all of our kitchens and we work closely in association with another Dartmouth company, A W Carpentry, occasionally building kitchens for them to install for their customers. When you are not working, how do you spend your time? I enjoy messing about on the River Dart, there is always so much to see and do, especially in good weather! We love to get away sailing on our boat whenever we can. What’s the best way for customers to contact you to discuss a new kitchen? Pick up the phone! We are experienced, friendly and ready to start your next project. Call on 07949 349362
