109 Celebrating OF DARTMOUTH

BEST THE

With a prominent location on the Kingswear side of the River Dart, Darthaven Marina is a major family run local business providing an extensive and excellent range of marine services for local boat owners and visiting yachts.

I

ts reputation and expertise has been built over 40 years. As well

as providing permanent berthing facilities for 270 boats, it also provides 40 berths for visiting yachts. A new 40 tonne boat hoist is able to lift boats up to approx 60 ft at all states of the tide. Up to 900 boats are lifted ashore or launched each year. Its onsite marine services includes

engineering, electrical, shipwrights, yacht refinishing, painting, plumbing & fabrication. The chandlery is one of the best stocked in the South West and is open daily. Over 200 parking spaces are

available for use by berth-holders, visitors and the general public and there are excellent onshore facilities. Darthaven employs over 40 full time staff, some of whom have been with the company for many years e.g. Phil Stead, the Chandlery Manager is retiring this year after 49 years with the business! Darthaven is constantly investing in staff training, upgraded facilities, environmental improvements and infrastructure. Subject to planning permission, they also plan a major redevelopment of their office and facilities block – better access and layout of the chandlery, upgraded changing and washroom facilities and an expanded and improved layout and furnishing of the main social spaces.

Berthing Darthaven provides boat owners with a safe and secure environment to moor their boat with sheltered, walk on berths. Facilities include water and electricity on all pontoons. Over winter, many boats can be

stored ashore or special winter berths are available for owners bringing their boats from exposed swinging and trot moorings. Due to the marina’s position it remains very sheltered even during the worst of the weather. Winter berthing commences from 1st October through to March 31st and is available for £20 per metre per month (+vat). During the summer months, a small number of annual berth holders visit

various parts of the UK or Channel Islands for extended periods of time. Due to this, berths of all sizes can become available between April and September.

Visiting boats With space for 40 boats, Darthaven offers a sheltered and convenient location for visitors. There are excellent onshore facilities – showers toilets, vending machines for drinks/ snacks, a launderette, waste and recycling facilities, wifi etc. Visitors are advised to call ahead so that the marina is aware of your arrival. With an increasing number of new

boats built with septic tanks (now mandatory in the Mediterranean and on inland waterways), Darthaven is the only marina on the river offering a pump out facility – it normally takes just 10 minutes and costs from £12 for visitors and £6 for berth holders.

Lift out and storage One of the largest now in the

South West, the new 40 tonne crane (from Italy) is better designed to lift out heavier and longer boats of all awkward shapes and sizes, safely and securely. The crane is kept busy throughout the year and reliability is critical to ensure boats are lifted when convenient for owners. Most boats are pressure washed

on lift-out and Darthaven is one of the very few marinas in the UK (and the only one on the river) to have
