demand does outstrip supply, particularly in areas such as Stoke Gabriel and Dittisham. We have been working to address this by managing the waiting lists in a pro- active way, ensuring moorings are of the right type and testing ways of both increasing capacity such as the new storage facilities in conjunction with Blackness Marine) and understanding demand patterns for both visitors and permeant berth holders. All of this needs to be done with a clear eye on the needs of our stake- holder including customers and river users, as an example, increasing facilities at Dittisham is good for visitors and boat users but has to be balanced against the needs of residents. We also need to think about future needs, and how to plan for those. Considering how river usage will change
River usage will
change over the next 20 years
over the next 20 years, the types of vessels we need to cater for, the possible impact of any future move to different propulsion systems, changing age profiles, increased environmental considerations all need to be built into what we do and how we think. In many respects, being able to think about the future of the Dart and how it will be used over an extended peri- od, and how our stakeholders’ needs may change provides one of our most significant forward challenges. I am optimistic that, with the
excellent team in place, we will continue to develop the many conversations we need to have to ensure the Dart remains the outstanding beauty it undoubtedly is.
The latest news, keeping residents and harbour users up to date.
Capt. Mark Cooper
REGATTA 2018 Dartmouth Royal Regatta is the busiest week of the year with a large number of vessels both underway and moored in the harbour. The Dart Harbour river team will be on hand on channel 11, callsign DARTNAV to help those on the water and promote safety. Since the river will be particularly busy during the Regatta I would ask that you take special care to ensure that everyone stays safe whilst enjoying themselves.
Events and safety Harbour users are reminded to keep clear of the organised waterborne events and exercise particular caution when underway in the area during this period. Events such as the fireworks on Saturday the 1st of September will require us to close certain parts of the harbour for short periods of time so we can maximize safety. Local Notices to Mariners will be available (sent by email and published on our Facebook and Twitter pages) so please do take heed
