points, taxi’s and more) and, from that we understand the funding we need to make sure it can be supported, while ensuring environmental impact is fully considered and kept to a minimum.


Of course, there is a whole host


of activity on the background to make all this happen. The most obvious is the need to run both harbour dues and moor- ing fees for river users, which is what pays for all the activity. Our team based in Dartmouth looks after the 3000 plus harbour dues issued annually and 1600 moorings, together with the substantial maintenance activity to ensure moorings are all in excellent condition. We have a dedicated team


of river officers who patrol the river, along with attentive office staff and together they manage activity on the river and provide guidance and support to people enjoying the water. We also run the water taxis based in Dartmouth to get people to and from moorings. The benefit of this service is that it saves a lot of tenders from being used, reduc- ing demand for tender storage in an already well used area, as well as being a safer way of getting to moorings. This is where our focus and understanding on safe river use combines with our capability to provide a facility. One of the largest dangers in the Dart is unlit tenders travelling swiftly at night, and the taxi service provides an excellent way of managing that risk. Many of our customers are familiar with one of our largest challenges: managing the moor- ings in the river.
