DARTMOUTH BOUTIQUE CELEBRATES 1ST YEAR OF TRADING
A Dartmouth charity shop has been celebrating its first anniversary after raising more than £140,000 for Rowcroft Hospice. Rowcroft’s boutique shop in Lower Street, Dartmouth has been a soaring success in its first year of trading with a staggering 15,000 items sold. So far the shop has generated enough revenue to fund 318 days of 24 hour patient care on Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit, a real achievement for the first year of trading. The Dartmouth Boutique is a real treasure trove of designer labels and timeless pieces sold at competitive price points. The temptation of designer labels like Mulberry and Tod’s are part of the shop’s success story. At Christmas time a stunning pair of Kate Spade boots were sold for £195 – RRP £300. Amy Nichols, Dartmouth’s Boutique Manager is thrilled with the success of the shop’s first year. She said, “It has been a real pleasure to work alongside the Dartmouth community and we would like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude for their generosity and support of our shop and the hospice services. The money raised helps to fund the care and support that is provided across South Devon and right here in Dartmouth too.” The boutique stocks a variety of pre-loved ladies’ and mens’ clothing as well as handbags, shoes and other accessories. It is open 9am – 4.30pm Monday – Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm.

Hampton Gold 10 years ago, Tom Simpson (editor’s note - a ‘chip off the old block!) was helping to design and lay up the first issue of By The Dart during his gap year. After a brief career in film production, he changed tack and took a 1 year course in Garden Design. Two years after graduating, he won sponsorship from South West Water to create a Show Garden at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2018, the UK’s largest garden show. The resulting South West Water Green Garden, which is all about managing rainwater more sustainably in gardens and built up areas, duly won a Gold medal! - it was commended by the judges for its originality, flair and impact.
