for small builders and keeps almost 100% of the products it sells in stock. Builders and other trade professionals don’t have far to go to pick up supplies whenever they need them. BUILT IN THE UK Howdens manufactures a large proportion of its own kitchen units at two factories in Yorkshire and Cheshire - around 4.1 million cabinets, 2.1 million kitchen frontals and 900,000 worktops and breakfast bars. The UK manufacturing link does not stop there. The trees used to make the chipboard used in the kitchens are grown and sustainably harvested in the UK, mainly in forests in Northumberland, Scotland and Wales. (Howdens are registered with FSC and PEFC). QUICK TURN AROUND Lead times on a Howdens kitchen are very competitive – a completed kitchen can be supplied in just 10 days from the factory. EXPERT PLANNING AND DESIGN Your local Howdens depot can give you expert advice on the latest finishes, fixtures and fittings, storage solutions and appliances. Working with your builder, the Howdens designers will help make the most of your available space and create a detailed plan for your builder to work to. They will have worked out the difficult installation issues in advance. The Dartmouth branch has three designers who will visit a customer’s home to provide a free site measure and to discuss requirements and bring samples. They will quickly turn around and draw up 3-D CAD drawings - customers can visit the store and view these on their large display screen and discuss changes,

detailed specifications, materials, finishes and furniture – there are 17 sample kitchen installations to view in the showroom and samples of all available frontals in multiple colours and finishes. SUPPLIED AS RIGID CABINETS NOT FLAT PACK A Howdens kitchen is supplied made up of rigid cabinets – there’s no flat pack to build - all the hard work is done in the factory with the units supplied as rigid, ready-made, glued and doweled units. This incurs a slight cost penalty, but is possibly only £200 - £300 on an average kitchen of say £4,000 - £5,000. But the customer is saving at least 1 day’s work in building the units on site and there’s the confidence of better quality control as a result. COMPETITIVE PRICES FOR QUALITY PRODUCTS A Howdens kitchen can typically cost a few thousand pounds but they’ll also be able to supply a top quality kitchen costing £10,000 or more. All kitchens are built out of 18mm chipboard – with a choice of three colours of light grey oak, light oak and white. Frontals range in thickness from 15mm to 22mm, in chipboard, mdf or oak with a wide

variety of good quality finishes. As well as laminate worktops, Howdens can also supply solid oak, quartz and granite – they now offer builders a specialist cutting and fitting service to help install these worktops. A Howdens kitchen is available in many styles – from traditional Shaker to the increasingly popular contemporary designs such as linear integrated frontals. There’s a 25 years guarantee on cabinets, 5 years on frontals, 2 years on appliances and 5 years on oven door glasses etc NOT JUST CABINETS, BUT ALSO APPLIANCES, SINKS, TAPS ETC A customer can also source all their appliances direct from Howdens. They supply their own brand – Lamona – as well as sinks and taps. They offer other brands such as AEG, Neff and Bosch direct from stock. Prices are very competitive – they will often price match where they can if customers find cheaper elsewhere. Internal cabinet mechanisms e.g. soft close hinges, opening and storage mechanisms etc are sourced from Blum.
