Travelling Ashore Please consider using the available river taxi services on channel 69 or 07970 346571 to travel ashore; we have both reduced fares and increased their number to encourage this. If you do choose to use your tender in the hours of darkness or restricted visibility, please show the appropriate lights and signals. We strongly encourage the use of kill cords and the wearing of lifejackets. Previous years have seen incidents involving unlit tenders returning to larger vessels on moorings. The International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea includes use of a torch or white light if you’re using your dinghy at night and should be adhered to at all times.
Speed awareness The maximum speed limit within the Dart Harbour area is 6 knots, although it is worth noting that many vessels need to travel slower than 6 knots due to their hull characteristic which will cause a large wash even at 4 knots – the impact of wake is easily felt in this waterway by users, flora and fauna alike. We look for your help to protect the environment and ask you to obey the Dart Harbour Byelaws. We ask that you are particularly mindful of other river users during this very busy period and adjust your speed accordingly. The Harbour Office will take action against boats found speeding or through their actions, endangering others. Harbour Authority vessels will be patrolling throughout the regatta and there will also be a number of other officials and event organizers afloat and managing the foreshore, slipways and approaches. The success of the week and enjoyment of those
attending depends upon everyone staying safe. Please listen to, and follow, the instructions of officials and event organisers who may ask you do things that are not normal practice to enhance safety or to help other river users. The River Dart is one of the most beautiful rivers on the South Coast and is popular with both leisure and commercial users. Our aim is to see it flourish whilst preserving its environmental integrity.
