83 East Cork Soccer Notes Corkbeg Reports Kanturk 1 by PAUL O’RILEY
CSL U 12 Div4, Corkbeg 1
Corkbeg squad edging closer to league glory ..... Corkbeg welcomed 2nd
place Kanturk to White- gate on Sunday morning,
in what turned out to be a titanic battle between 2 very good teams. The first half was an extremely tight affair with the Beg slight- ly the better of the two teams. Both defences were
very strong, with goalkeep- er Hugh Mulcahy and Conor Byrne very much to the fore for the Beg. The best chance of the
first half fell to Corkbeg, when James Hurley rattled the crossbar from a free kick and the ball bounced down and away to safety before any Corkbeg at-
tackers could pounce. 0-0 at the break. After the restart , Kan-
turk took the lead some- what
fortuitously, when
after a fantastic save from captain Hugh Mulcahy, the ball ran free in the box and was poked-home by the Kanturk striker. Kan- turk had a good spell after
this and came close to add- ing a second, but the Cork- beg lads kept plugging away and their, never say die attitude was rewarded at the death, when Sean O’Callaghan knocked in Keelan Codys great corner ball delivery, to a rapturous roar from the home crowd. So with three
games
to go the Beg are still top and 6 more points will se- cure the league title. It’s time for everyone to stay focused and keep working hard. Apart
from those
mentioned in the match report others to shine in a battling team performance were Evan Crowley, Colm White and Ryan Murray.
