Sports County U21B Football Quarter Final
Midleton 4-12 Ballygarvan 2-8
Midleton got the better
of Ballygarvan in Pairc Ui Rinn last Saturday afternoon, in a cracking U21B football quarter final. The final score- line would suggest that Midleton were comfort- able
winners, but had
the Ballygarvan finishing matched their approach play, they could easily have won. That said however Midleton were full value
for the win and played some terrific football in the bargain. Cormac Beausang, Sean O’Leary -Hayes, Senaidh Smyth, Sean
O’Meara and
Adam Daly were all out- standing for the winners, while Ronan Corkery, Richard O’Leary Mi- chael O’sullivan, and Mathew Anthony caught the eye for a Ballygarvan side that began well with Ronan Corkery getting
the opening point. It was end to end stuff with Sean O’Leary-Hayes pointing for Midleton who led by a point 0-3 to 0-2 after the opening quarter with Cormac Beausang and Padraig O’Brien on tar- get for the East Cork side with Richard Cassidy the Ballygarvan scorer. As the half wore on Midleton were
playing
better and while Mark Anthony and Shane Finn traded points, Midleton struck for two quick goals to put them in control. The first saw Cormac Beausang score from an acute
angle while
second was swept home by Sean O’Leary- Hayes. While
Killian Fitzger-
ald and Adam Dunne got points for Ballygar- van, Midleton closed out the half with a Cormac Beausang point to lead by 2-5 to 0-5 at half-time. On the
resumption
Midleton put themselves in a winning position as Eoin O’Mahony found the net in the 33rd
min- the
ute, while a minute later sub Luke Finnerty fired home to open up a twelve point gap. Ballygarvan to their credit were staring defeat in the face but they worked
hard and had
points from Mark Antho- ny and Ronan Corkery, but it
took two superb
saves from Artur Nganou in the Midleton goal to keep Ballygarvan at bay. Midleton survived the onslaught and with Cor- mac Beausang firing over some
splendid points,
the victory was assured, before Killian Fitzgerald bagged two late
chances goals
for Ballygarvan. They created several
but a mixture of good defending and one pass too many often saw the chance wasted. Midle- ton on the other hand were much more decisive
and with Sean O’Leary Hayes and team captain Cormac Beausang in fly- ing form, the east Cork champions progressed to the semi-final with a good all round display. Midleton: C Beausang
