“DOLLY

HORGAN” CUP FINAL On last Thursday night

both finals of the “Dolly Horgan” Cup and Plate took place in the G.A.A. Hall. We had a great turn out of club mem- bers and there was a good buzz around the hall.

was great to see so many members

involved who

had not played in the fi- nals previously; we were guaranteed new names on the Cup as none of the teams had won the beautiful trophy before. Dolly was a member

It

of our club for many years and was one of

the most popular players with everyone

involved

in bowls. The highlight for Dolly each year was the week-end in Killar- ney with her husband Finbarr. The excitement and tension in the hall on finals night was at fe- ver pitch as our umpire Malcolm Taylor tossed the coin for choice of 1st away, in the Plate final Joyce Murphy and skip Mick McCarthy took on Vera Taylor and Con O’Sullivan, at

the end

of a great game of bowls Vera and Con recorded a win in a close game by 1 shot. The Cup final was con-

tested by Mary O’Reil- ly and Fred Kelleher vs Margaret McCarthy and Peter O’Reilly, we had a cracker of a game as Pe- ter and Margaret won the “Dolly Horgan” Cup for 2018.

At the presentation

of prizes our chairman Tadgh Barry thanked Finbarr Horgan and his

family for the wonderful support year

to

they give our

club

each and

their involvement in the Dolly Horgan Cup com- petition. Tadgh also wel- comed Jerry Wallis and his family and said it was an honor to have them in- volved and thanked them for their sponsorship of the prizes again this year and is looking forward to next year already.

Jer-

ry Wallis presented the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the Plate

and said he was delighted to be able to help the club and promised to be back again next year. Finbarr Horgan then

presented the prizes to the runners-up in the Cup Mary O’Reilly and Fred Kelleher and praised them for a great perfor- mance.

Amidst huge

excitement he presented the “Dolly Horgan” Cup to Margaret McCarthy and Peter O’Reilly who were worthy winners of a great competition and

thanked Tadgh Barry for organizing the event once again. Finbarr said it was an honor for his family to be involved and it was great to see such a turn- out of club members on the night. Everyone then moved in to the lounge where food and beverag- es were supplied and mu- sic was provided by our very own D.J. Malcolm and we danced the night away until the wee hours of the night.
