Fe 10 This was an extremely
busy weekend for the boys. On Saturday we played Kinsale at home in the hurling league, with 32 boys across three teams. Well done to all the lads who played some great stuff throughout. Thanks also to Charlie, Conorand Alex who referred very well. Then on Sunday we welcomed Sixmilebridge to Clonmult for a inter county challenge match. We had 35 magpies play- ing with some fantastic hurling on display. Thanks to Sixmilebridge for trav- eling and for three very sporting matches. Thanks to all parents who provid- ed much needed refresh- ments (for playersand coaches) after the match and to all who helped out. It was a very enjoyable morning for all involved. We then made the short bus trip to Páirc Ui Chao- imh with 34 eagerand very vocal Cork supporters to shout on their Rebel he- ro’s. Thanks to all the coach-
es who helped out. Fe 13
They say football is dead
and buried in Cork but last Monday night served up one of the most entertain- ing games of football that brought hope and a bit of light at the end of the tun- nel for those who still dare to dream that football will once again rise in the Re- bel county. The Magpies were away to local rivals Carrigtwohill and it was the home side who came out
of the
traps firing on all cylin- ders. They quickly went into the
three goals but we
lead scoring never
dropped our heads and a goal from Zach Smith fol- lowed by points from Cian Lambe, Rory Lester and two from Niall Lang saw the us trailing at halftime on a score line of 5-01 to 1-04. A strong team talk at halftime and with the help of a sloping pitch we got scores from Tadgh Bohane, Zach Smith, Cor- mac Ryan and Evan Mc Grath brought us back to level terms it was point for point all the way to the end. The game finished level at 6-09 a piece. It was another fantastic display by this group of youths, special mention must go to Alex Moloney and Ni- all Lang for a tremendous work rate done on the night. The game summed up the never give up atti- tude of these young men and it certainly didn’t lack entertainment. Thanks to all parents and supporters for their help on the night. Panel: Adam Collins, Sean Cronin, Darragh Scan- lon, Darragh
Aherne,
Rory Lester, Alex Molo- ney, Eoin Higgins, Niall Lang, Zach Smith, Dar- ragh Fitzgerald, Tadgh O’Leary Hayes, Evan Mc
Grath, Conor Williams, Tadhg Bohane, Cian Lambe, Oisin Berdassa, Cormac Ryanand Oscar Brennan. On Friday evening
last we travelled to Car- rigaline
for a C3 game.
We started well with the forwards taking some fine scores Oscar Brennan and Tiernan O’Connell were in particular good form. Points from Eoin Higgins Tadhg Bohane and Dar- ragh
Fitzgerald sent us
in at half time leading 8 points to 1-2. Carrigaline got a goal at
the start
of the second half and put the pressure on but we held our ground and when Darragh Fitzgerald got a goal it gave us some breathing space
leaving
the final score line of Mid- leton 1-12 v Carrigaline 2-06. A special mention to Zach Smith for some fine goal keeping skills. The mentors would like to thank all parents for their support on the night. Pan- el as follows Zach Smith, Sean Cronin, Adam Col- lins,
Darragh Higgins,
Eoin Higgins, Rory Lester, Evan Mc Grath, Tadhg Bohane, Darragh Fitzger- ald, Larry Ward, Oscar Brennan, Cormac Ryan, Samuel Morrissey Paul Connolly, Andrew Burke- and Tiernan O’Connell.
Fe 14 This week we
played
two Football league games. One at home against Gl- anmire and the
second
was a rearranged fixture away against Carrigaline. First up was the game against Glanmire
on
Wednesday evening. The conditions were
perfect,
sunny, calm and dry. Glan- mire would be considered
one the stronger teams in the league, so this was go- ing to be a tough game. We got off to a great start and challenged for every ball. The lads were win- ning a lot of possession and moving the ball into scoring opportunities. Our first two points came from Tiernan Roche, the second point coming from a well worked move from defence to the
for-
ward line with some lovely hand passing. Our third point was scored by Kamil Noack. This put us into a three-point
showed their full potential. We put in the effort in the second half but we could not find the same level as we had in the first half. Our opponents took their point
opportunities very
well and out scored us by two goals and seven points to leave the final score Midleton 0:05 v Glanmire 4:10
Our second game of
the week was on Satur- day afternoon away to Carrigaline.
Again, conditions were lead with
twenty minutes gone. At this stage Glanmire start- ed to get into the game and they put two goals and three points on the score- board. We responded well to this set back and put two more points on the score board through Mikey Finn and TJ Murphy. This left the half time score Midle- ton 0:05 v Glanmire 2:03. The second half was a dif- ferent story and Glanmire
perfect.
We started this game with much more intensity than our previous game. That was the benefit of play- ing two football games in quick succession, it makes it a lot easier for the lads to get into the pace of the game from the start. From our defence right up to the forward line each player put in a fantastic display as they battled for every ball and supported each oth- er, always looking to have a man to pass the ball to
the
and help move the ball up the field and into scoring positions. In the first half both teams exchanged scores early on. We scored points through Tiernan Roche, David Noack and Mikey Finn. We conced- ed an unlucky goal when a high ball dropped into the square and ended up in the back of the net. This meant that we were trailing by four points at half time. The second half started with the same in- tensity and we pushed on creating plenty of scoring chances, with points from Cathal Beausang, Mikey Finn and Tiernan Roche. But in our effort to push forward looking for scores we were caught out at the back with two goals on the break. Late on in the second half we conced- ed a penalty, but this was brilliantly saved by Brian O’Connell. The intensity never dropped through- out the entire game and we pushed forward try-
ing to score the goals that would have pulled us back into the game. Through a combination of excellent defending, goalkeeping and hitting the post we tried but the goals never came. The
results may
not have gone our way but with the attitude and com- mitment of all the players was excellent and they can be proud of the effort that they showed. Our next game is a hurl-
ing game at home to Bally- garvan on Wednesday 23rd May.
Our panel for the
games were, Mikey Finn, Ben Kenneally, Tiernan Roche, Rian De Barra, Michael Roe, Odhran Prenter, Brian O’Connell, Fionn Dalton, Cathal Beausang, Dara Scanlon, Alex Moloney, Niall Lang, Tadgh O’Leary Hayes, Darragh Fitzgerald, Evan McGrath, Kamiland Da- vid Noack.
