“It’s odd really. To decide that here was a suitable environment to live in. As a detective working for the police, I should have known that this house was unheard of and unnaturally… abandoned to live in as a family. Too silenced – desolate. Jensen, my husband, and I, and our daughters, Charlotte – four – and Hannah – still a baby – moved into this house with a project in mind. We always liked a refurbishing project. But there were…” Katherine Foley paused to banish the tear from sliding down the bridge of her nose. “Things…” her voice wavered, “...odd things in this house. The manipulative kind. The kind… that gets under your skin and encourages you to… change.” Eager interviewers pushed forward in a crowd – the sort of crowds that suffocate. But the question begged, ‘Would they care more for the family or the recordings, headlines and photographs? Headlines like these would ensure they got front-cover.’
“Charlotte is with her father at this moment, talking to a therapist. They got under her skin. Caused her to act… not herself. My friend, Cassandra Crimsen is not with us today. She was targeted by ‘them’ too,” Katherine paused for the seventh time in her speech; waves of anxiety churned in her stomach, rapidly moving to the top of her throat.
The interviewers could tell from her actions this was real. But again, did they care? It took just one voice in the vast ocean of people, to cause a whole tsunami of them. Overwhelming. Drowning out the bursts of camera clicks and refocussing of microphones.

‘Time to go,’ she thought.
Her stomach eventually gave in as Katherine walked briskly off the platform to the security guard; he would guide her to the Police Escort Car. “We have to go as soon as possible,” his voice was gruff and serious. “They’ll start to swarm the car as soon as the handbrake’s dropped,” the police man renounced to Katherine. The shouts and questions didn’t stop when she was safely inside the car. They all just sounded like hyenas to her now. Rain started in droplets, which transformed into pelting bullets as the driver pulled sluggishly away from the curb. And just like the guard said, the interviewers started to run out at the car, jumping and pushing up against it. Sickening.
