Volunteer At Broadstone Youth Club
Well, we made it through the first half term of Youth Club and we look towards a busy season which includes our Halloween celebrations, Children in Need and, of course, Christmas!
Our new Year 8s are proving just as much fun as previous years, getting stuck in, week in week out, and spending a small fortune in the tuck shop! We still have space for a few more children, and I have noticed that we only have one or two from the Grammar Schools, and from other middle schools… all children from Broadstone are very welcome regardless of where they go to school, so we look forward to seeing them on a Thursday at 7.15pm.
We currently have around 40 children attending our Year 9 club on Wednesdays, which is a much more laid-back affair. Plenty of ball games, You- Tubing, karaoke and pool, with some slightly bonkers ‘8 O’Clock Challenges’ thrown in and a great chance for some down time, means a more chilled session for the volunteers too. Again, all young people are very welcome and the club costs just £1 per week, so if your child fancies getting out of the house we would love to see them.
By popular demand we have now introduced a monthly Friday Year 10 session and it has been lovely to see many previous members coming back. We want to provide a safe, chilled space for the older children to hang out – especially now it is dark – and we advertise the details through our closed Facebook group, which all former members have access to. If your young person is interested, please get in touch via email if you/they are not on Facebook.
Our club is run entirely by volunteers and we would love to expand further – setting up a session for Year 7 children. However, we need your help. It takes 6-8 volunteers to run a session, so without new volunteers we simply cannot take on another night. No matter what your age or experience, we want to hear from you, even if you can only offer a couple of hours every fortnight.
