Broadstone Middle School, Age 9-13 Broadstone Middle School revives old

traditions with new Head Boy and Girl roles.

With our school’s aim of developing the whole child and giving students the chance to develop into young leaders, we recently held interviews for a Head Boy and Girl from Year 8 who would be responsible for being the ‘face’ of the school. As well as this, they would be the head of the school council and be responsible for being fantastic role models for all other BMS pupils (no pressure!).

Making the process as true to real life interviews as possible, the potential candidates were interviewed one by one, with each candidate answering the same challenging questions in front of a panel of three adults (Head teacher Mrs Wilks, Assistant Head Mrs Milton and Student Voice Lead Miss Pike). Questions included: What qualities do you think a Head boy/girl should possess? How would you deal with a challenging situation involving a friend? How could you help to improve the school? The potentials were nervous

but determined and their answers in every interview were outstanding. But one question remained after all 12 candidates had been interviewed – how on earth can we pick just two?

After a long time of deliberation, a tough decision was made; the fi nal candidates were chosen based on their passion for the school and natural warmth. Congratulations to Barnaby Devlin and Clara Beard who will be our Head Boy and Girl for the year 2017/18. As a school, we couldn’t have been prouder of ALL of the candidates who interviewed, they certainly made the job of choosing near on impossible!

Do you need somewhere to hold an event or sporting activity outside of school hours or at the weekend?
