Ale-legro! Professor Julian gets a taste for Conservatoire’s brew
Professor Julian Lloyd Webber is planning to introduce his favourite tipples into the bar at the new Birmingham Conservatoire. The principal of the Conservatoire visited
Wye Valley Brewery to discuss brewing a bespoke bottled beer. He is a long-time fan of the brewery’s
Butty Bach and Hereford Pale Ale and plans to serve the beer, as well as a cask ale, at the new building. The internationally-renowned cellist and
conductor will be creating the bottled beer alongside head brewer Gareth Bateman. Professor Lloyd Webber said: “I am very excited to be brewing a bespoke Wye Valley Brewery beer. It will be a real treat for students and visitors at the Conservatoire to have this popular local brewery create something special for them.” Part of Birmingham

Conservatoire will open this month as part of the institution’s £280m
investment in its facilities. Faith conference
is hailed a success A conference aimed at celebrating the contribution faith businesses make to the wider community has been hailed a success. NatWest in conjunction with the National
Black Women’s Network hosted the first Faith and Business Summit in Birmingham, with faith leaders and representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Hindu faiths in attendance. According to the Cinnamon Faith Action Audit
(2015), the contribution given by UK churches and other faith groups that responded was worth £235m to the economy. Nationally they estimate
this puts the value given by churches and other faith groups into their communities through social action projects to over £3bn a year. The summit was
opened by Stephen Timms, chairman of APPG for Faith and Cohesion, and Bishop Wilton Powell was as the keynote speaker. The day included two panel discussions on
'Faith, Business and Leadership' and 'Collaboration, Business and Social Action'. Both panel discussions were led by Sonia
Brown, founder of NBWN, and sparked a debate on the importance of faith organisations to business. Manjit Kang, diversity ambassador for
NatWest, said: “Our first Faith and Business Summit went very well. Events like this provide NatWest with the opportunity to engage with business owners, faith leaders and those starting their business journey at the same time. “It is only with this type of support will we
equip our staff with the knowledge for the challenges ahead.”
