Business News Race on to find fastest firm

The hunt is on to find the Midlands’ fittest and fastest businesses at this year’s Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run, taking place on 15 October. The city’s annual half marathon features the

Arcadis Business Challenge, in which companies of all sizes and sectors compete for fastest-time trophies and all-important bragging rights in the corporate world. A special element to this year’s Business Challenge

comes in the Chamber Cup, which invites Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce members and patrons to battle it out to be crowned fastest firm in the organisation. The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce

will be entering a team for the Arcadis Business Challenge and chief executive Paul Faulkner said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Arcadis Business Challenge at this year’s Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run.

In Brief

More foreign businesses invested in the West Midlands in 2016-17 than anywhere outside London and the South East, according to the Department for International Trade’s latest figures. With a total of 151 new foreign

direct investment (FDI) projects recorded, the West Midlands region welcomed more foreign investment than all regional locations outside the South East. Figures also showed 6,570

new jobs were created in the West Midlands over this period – more new jobs than any other UK area outside London.

Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police have launched a Rough Sleepers Task Force to bring key organisations together to address city centre rough sleeping. The task force will tackle the

increasing numbers of people genuinely sleeping rough in the city and the increasing numbers of people begging and involved in criminal behaviour through a three-pronged set of guiding principles – Educate, Engage and Enforce. The task force will co-ordinate individual strategies on a case by case basis.
