Shelforce forge ahead
Few fabricators can trace their history back nearly 200 years, but then Shelforce a Birmingham based manufacturer of PVC-U doors and double glazed windows owned by Birmingham City Council, is no ordinary business. Shelforce dates back to 1839 when it was a
workshop for the blind, but over the years its role has gradually expanded into providing employment and training for people with various levels of disabilities. Shelforce restructured in 2013 out of necessity
to protect its future and for the past 3 years has made a remarkable business transformation. At the heart of this change are a Management Team and workforce that inspire change with their commitment and passion for building a legacy for the future. Shelforce has an extensive knowledge and
expertise of working within refurbishment and new build programmes across social housing and educational sectors, they have a number of accreditations - ISO9001 and ISO14001, as well as possessing PAS24, security enhanced performance certification and CHAS certification. Shelforce’s long history and core values
contribute towards its mission of being a profitable provider of quality PVC-U products, value and social responsibility. Shelforce is now looking forward to building its customer base

with like-minded companies that believe in providing opportunities for all, while supplying value for money products. Shelforce Business Manager Howard Trotter
reflects on the last 3 years; “After the necessary restructure of 2013 we
began the journey to rebuild Shelforce and at the heart of this was the workforce, and how they would react to the pressures of commercial manufacture and keeping our customers happy. Added to this was the new dynamic to me of
a predominately disabled workforce and how we were going to build a new future together. It is a source of great pride that in the past 3
years together we have improved our sales revenue by 70% and our productivity by a staggering 631%.
I have learnt that the resilience that the
workforce have built up through their own personal life experiences, make any of the normal manufacturing issues easily solvable in comparison, and this is a source of constant inspiration to me and everyone that comes into contact with the inspiring workforce at Shelforce. As a result of the work ethic and willingness
to continuously improve, the business has improved year on year. With our passion, commitment, teamwork and the support of our customers, we look forward to continuing to build our legacy for the future.”
