you do either. So, I’m here to help! It’s all too easy to keep doing what you’re doing, but of course that leads down the rabbit hole of stag- nation and decline. If you are young and think you’ll worry about that later ‘cause you’ve got better things to do, let me tell you something. Fifty sneaks up on you in a flash! A lot of you know exactly what I’m talking about. Looking back you think, well I’m still here, and I wish I had done some things much differently so I wouldn’t be having some of these issues now. It’s never too late to im- prove, and that level of improvement is in large part directly proportional to your level of commitment to yourself. SO, my self-ap- pointed mission is to help as many people, es- pecially musicians, as I can. It’s partly a self-serving mission so I can continue to do the things that make me happy, which are lis- tening to music and watching it live. Some- times self-serving missions are the ones to which we are most passionate and devoted. Living life on the road or even having

your days filled with scheduling gigs, record- ing tracks and playing locally, makes it all too easy to grab something quick and easy to eat, but that is rarely the best option. I am here to help. There are many changes that aren’t life- consuming and won’t break the bank, that will make a difference in how you think, feel, how you perform and recover, and will have an impact on your future health. There are many factors that determine good health other than nutrition, like exercise, satisfying social connections with others (Hint: One- night stands don’t count.), creativity, finances and more. You will learn more about those in my future columns, and you can check out my website and Facebook page. I want you to be your best for a long time to come, so follow me for Our Health Revolution. A Happier Healthier You Is On The Way! Let’s begin… The first and easiest step is hydration,

hydration, hydration! This is key to all good health habits! It can help with recovery after a

show, but don’t wait till then to start or you’ll be stuck playing catch-up. Of course you don’t want to have to run off the stage to pee, but if you keep steadily hydrated throughout the day you won’t need as much before and after the shows. Adding a good-quality sublingual (melt under the tongue) B12 vitamin to your hydration routine, especially while partying and after, is the first step to hangover recov- ery. I recommend good, clean, filtered water brought from home and not that stuff in toxic plastic bottles from the store! They are often left out in the hot sun, and the plastic mole- cules get into the water. Sheryl Crow attrib- utes her breast cancer to drinking bottled water and she warns everyone to stop. My friend Vicki Bordeaux told me her husband Paco, who plays guitar with the blues band Little Mike and the Tornados, takes his own water when he’s on the road and was recently ever so grateful on their trip to play down in The Keys. They passed many areas with signs warning people to boil the water. For extra support, live coconut water is

a great, all-natural electrolyte boost without the sugar, colors or chemicals in sports drinks that harm your health and make you feel drained. “Live” just means it’s fresh and the nutrients have not been destroyed. Do not buy the brands on the shelf in the drink aisle. Those brands are pasteurized with heat to in- crease shelf life, but that kills all the nutrients and the taste. And don’t go for the added fla- vors. Those equal added sugar. You want the ones from the cooler, which need to remain chilled until you drink them. These are usu- ally next to yogurt drinks and Kombucha tea, another very healthy drink if you can dig the taste. We’ll talk about that in more detail later.

Coconut water has both vitamins B and

C, which are good for your heart, brain and immune system. These are just a few of the benefits. It is also said to have nutrients that help prevent heart attacks, lower high blood pressure, can have anti-aging effects and fight
