SPONSORS OF REGIONAL FOCUS

DICKINSON DEES HAVE WIND IN THEIR SAILS

As a firm, Dickinson Dees has wide ranging experience in the wind energy sector and has acted for a number of developers and landowners.

They have acted for four separate wind farm developers on schemes throughout England, including schemes in Devon, Cornwall, East Anglia, Yorkshire, Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria – some of which are now operating commercially. They have also acted in relation to onshore elements of an offshore wind farm which will shortly go into construction.

LANDOWNERS

Their national private client practice acts for a number of large agricultural and landed estates which, combined with our reputation in relation to wind farms, has led to Dickinson Dees acting for landowners on about 60 wind farm schemes on a nationwide basis.

NORTH EAST ENGLAND The main reason that the wind farm industry is so successful in the North East is that the region has good wind resource, particularly in Northumberland and Durham, combined with good infrastructure (including grid capacity which is sometimes an issue in Scotland where there is the UK’s best wind resource) and plenty of suitable land.

Although the region has not yet established itself as a national centre for wind power, steps are in hand to this effect, particularly in relation to offshore wind.

The region may soon have a wind turbine manufacturing plant which would build upon the experience in engineering and offshore industries in the area.

The National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) based in Blyth has also recently invested over £150 million on a research centre for offshore wind technology.

THE TEAM

Dickenson Dees is well-positioned to advise on the wind energy boom. They have a multi-disciplinary team, which
