Lunch is sure to be a colourful affair!
The first-ever Birmingham Chamber Enterprising Women’s Lunch is aimed at putting some colour back into people’s lives – literally. The event, on 21 April, will feature guest
speaker Jane Brook, from Worcestershire, who is an award-winning colour consultant. She works with clients around the world, to
help them make the most of themselves and their wardrobe. Her talk at the lunch will be called ‘Dress the Part’, and will look at what people can do with their wardrobe, as well the impact that colour can make on someone’s life. The former accountant will also reveal how
colour changed her own life – she says: “In eight years, I have gone from hiding away working with numbers in my accountancy career to helping people increase their confidence and self-esteem through the clothes they wear changing my own life along the way. “I spend my days helping others transform in
the way I did. I run classes from my studio in Worcester, I take clients shopping, I rummage through their wardrobes, I do lots of public speaking and I have fun every day. “I combine over 25 years’ experience in business
with my skill as a personal stylist to create fun and interactive learning experiences. I work with teams and individuals at all levels within business and help them achieve congruence between their personal brand and their career.” Jane began her career as an accountant, but
now runs a franchise for House of Colour. Again, in her own words, she describes how she left the ‘grey’ world of accountancy for a more colourful career. “I met my husband when I was at school and
married quite young. We had two daughters and our life bumbled along. Being good at maths, I fell into accountancy and worked in practice for many years before becoming a Finance Manager for a manufacturing company,” she explained. “Over the years, my husband and I grew apart and we finally decided to part on good terms
about seven years ago. I did not realise that a huge amount of my identity was as a wife and mum and it dawned on me that I didn’t have a clue who I was. This resulted in a major loss of confidence and self-esteem in all aspects of my life. I used to dress in black and try to hide away. I even used to pretend to take phone calls at work to avoid talking to customers. “At the same time, I had a wonderful friend
who looked amazing in everything she wore. She had the natural style and elegance that I wanted, so I tried to dress like her. “Now if I tell you that she is a Summer
‘princess’ and I'm an Autumn ‘pirate’, you can see where problems arose. Like so many women, I blamed myself for not looking good when my friend looked fabulous. Luckily, she was and is a fantastic friend and she took me along to ‘have my colours done’.” Jane will be sharing her experiences at the
Enterprising Women’s Lunch, at a venue yet to be announced. See the Chamber website at (
