Buddying up with Buddy Bag
Future Faces has chosen ‘The Buddy Bag Foundation’ as its charity for the year. The national charity, which has an office in
Birmingham, takes over from 2016 charity Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which raises money to provide ‘extras’ for patients. A total of £5,412 was raised during the year. Future Faces will be raising money for its new
charity at various events it will be holding during the year, including the annual dinner and quiz. The Buddy Bag Foundation is a new charity,
and was founded two years ago by Karen Williams, who was inspired by The Alannah and Madeline Foundation in Australia.
‘The committee was taken with how far the charity has come in a short space of time’
The latter has delivered more than 50,000
Buddy Bags to children in emergency care. A Buddy Bag is a backpack that contains
toiletries, pyjamas, socks and underwear. They also include ‘comfort’ items, such as a book, a photo frame and a teddy bear. The Foundation says a Buddy Bag is
‘something a child can call their own, no matter where they go’. The bag also contains a postcard addressed to
the Foundation, so children can write about how their Buddy Bag has helped them. The Buddy Bags are aimed at ‘restoring a
sense of safety and security into a child’s life during a traumatic time’, and in the UK are used

for children being placed in care after encountering violent domestic situations. Future Faces president Victoria Lineton said:
“The committee was really taken with how far the charity has come in a short space of time, and its ambitions for the future. The Buddy Bag Foundation shows true passion and commitment towards those children whose entire lives are turned upside down on arriving into emergency accommodation.
Track down HS2 opportunities
Young people in Greater Birmingham have been urged to embrace the opportunities on offer from HS2. Victoria Lineton (pictured), president of
Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s young professionals’ network Future Faces, hailed the opportunities the high speed rail project will bring to the region after it was granted Royal Assent. As well as creating thousands of
jobs and significantly reducing travel times between Birmingham and London, the project will create more than 2,000 apprenticeships. Birmingham will also be home to the
National College for High Speed Rail, providing specialist training, skills and qualifications required to build HS2. Ms Lineton, bid adviser at law firm Mills &
Reeve, said Future Faces will do its utmost to ensure young professionals in Greater Birmingham take full advantage of the opportunities on offer.
26 CHAMBERLINK April 2017 Victoria said: “The announcement of Royal
Assent for Phase One of HS2 is great news for the city of Birmingham and its young people. “The new HS2 station at Curzon Street will provide a world class destination for passengers and will create thousands of new jobs and homes. “In particular, young people
will benefit from the vast opportunities the project will create. For example, Birmingham will be the home for the National College for High Speed Rail which will provide
students with the specialist training, skills and qualifications required to build
HS2. Over 2,000 apprenticeships will also be created. “As president of Future Faces, I want to make
sure our members are fully equipped to embrace the opportunities on offer from HS2, so if you would like to find out more, please contact

“We look forward to being able to contribute
through fundraising and with our time, helping to get involved putting together the Buddy Bags and distributing them in the local community.” Future Faces manager Anna Assinder said:
“We are delighted to partner with The Buddy Bag Foundation and are very much looking forward to helping them make a difference to children who are living through traumatic experiences within the Greater Birmingham region.”
