Council’s interim chief welcomed by business


Business leaders have welcomed the swift appointment of a new interim chief executive for Birmingham City Council. Stella Manzie, former CEO of


Coventry City Council, has a track record of turning round failing authorities. Her appointment comes a month after Mark Rogers left the council. Paul Faulkner, chief executive of


Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “It is right that the council has acted swiftly to fill the CEO’s role on a temporary basis. “Stella Manzie has a long record


of success at the very top of local and national government and the business community looks forward to working with her for the good of the city.” Stella Manzie was recently sent by


the Government to Rotherham to help clear up the council in the wake of grooming gangs and child sexual exploitation scandals. She was also a senior civil servant in Alex Salmond’s Scottish Government between 2008 and 2011. Cllr John Clancy, the leader of

Innovation business seeks investment


Innovation Birmingham Ltd – wholly owned by Birmingham City Council – is seeking a new investor, as it continues with the development of the Innovation Birmingham Campus. KPMG Corporate Finance has


been instructed to review strategic options for the organisation, which incubates digital start-ups and nurtures the growth of tech firms with two to 50 employees. During the past 12 months,


Innovation Birmingham has opened two new buildings – the 5,812 sq ft Universities Centre and the flagship 42,149 sq ft iCentrum building. There are now over 150


technology businesses located across the 104,000 sq ft Campus off Holt Street in central Birmingham. Cllr John Clancy, leader of


Birmingham City Council, said: “The continued expansion of the Innovation Birmingham Campus is vital to the needs and continued growth of this entrepreneurial city. “The organisation requires a new


investor to bring clarity and certainty to its development programme, which benefits from being one of the 26 sites within the Birmingham city centre Enterprise Zone.”
