new ingredients in skin care

new beauty on the block

We discover which ingredients to keep an eye on in 2017.

In an effort to continuously offer clients the most progressive and inventive skin care products, therapists are permanently on the lookout for the next best ingredient in beauty. Thankfully, the industry is committed to research and development, and delivers new products each year which are increasingly based on natural ingredients.

This year saw a number of ingredients rise to the height of skin care fashion due to their successful effects on skin health. Moisturising Hyaluronic acid, antioxidant Algae, pigmentation-balancing Licorice, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing Probiotics and detoxifying Charcoal are just some of the words we now recognise when scanning the contents on the back of bottles and jars.

However, more recently, new ingredients are coming to the forefront in line with a group of trends set to be popular in 2017. The power of plants, superfoods and anti-pollution beauty products are just some of the elements we are seeing skin care based around.

botanical buzz

Fuelled by the desire for all things natural, botanical-powered skin care is becoming increasingly relevant to our industry. These ingredients can be derived from flowers, herbs, nuts, seeds, roots and berries.

While we are already aware of extracts and oils such as antioxidant Green Tea extract, anti-inflammatory Chamomile extract or moisturising and cleansing Rosehip and Grapeseed oil, newer additions such as Watercress Sprout extract are still relatively unheard of.

Biologique Recherche, a luxury French skin care brand who are focussing on all things natural and plant-based, have introduced botanical Watercress Sprout extract in their product Serum PIGM 400, showcasing its effective results on the skin. Combined with the superfood trend, which has become increasingly popular, the serum blends Soy Bean with this extract to help with pigmentation on the skin.
