in conversation with making a difference
This month Guild News chats to Jennifer Edwards, College Programme Manager for the iiaa, to find out about her life in and away from the beauty industry.
I ended up in the beauty industry because I knew from a little girl that beauty would be my world. I loved watching my mother getting ready to go out in the evening and was fascinated by how she was able to transform from being someone to cuddle to this impossibly beautiful, glamorous person in just a few strokes of eye pencil or lipstick. She was my inspiration.
The best thing about my job is meeting and working with young students who are at the very start of their careers, and seeing them develop into budding therapists.
An average day for me is never
average. The iiaa college programme really reflects how we are growing as an organisation and every day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity whether collaborating with the teams at HQ or out on the road visiting different colleges and students around the country.
If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would probably be a very different person! This is a hard question but if I think about how I am driven by wanting to make a difference to people and how much I thrive on the unexpected (and I really could not do anything related to health or beauty) then perhaps I could be seduced by working in the travel, hospitality or entertainment industry.
My ideal weekend would be spent lounging on the beach somewhere hot and warm.
When growing up my role model was Carrie from Sex and the City.
My favourite book is Alice in Wonderland.
My favourite film is Shawshank Redemption.
My beauty icon is Bridget Bardot.
My favourite beauty treatment is a facial treatment – Environ based of course.
My top beauty tip is to remove your make-up every night, and feed your skin with plenty of vitamin A internally with the highest quality grade supplements as well as topically.
My guilty pleasure is trash TV and plenty of it.
You might not know that I’ve run the London marathon – and my jane iredale foundation looked as fresh at the end as it did at the beginning.
I couldn’t live withoutmy Environ AVST Moisturiser.
I’m at my happiest when I know I have helped a young person reach their potential.
The motto I live by is ‘be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.’
I would like to be remembered as someone who always took a chance in life.
