National Make Up Awards return
The National Make Up Awards 2016, supported by the National Association of Screen Make-up Artists and Hairdressers (NASMAH), are returning to Beauty UK this May, created to showcase the work of professional and student MUAs from across the country.
Dear Readers
Happy New Year and welcome to 2016! With the tinsel and turkey well and truly packed away it’s a chance to take time out and really consider how you want your beauty business or career to develop in 2016. What would you like to achieve? If you could change anything about the success of last year, what would it be? Take the opportunity this month to work on your business or career. After the hectic month of December, use your spare time wisely – research training courses you’d like to undertake, plan which shows you want to visit over the coming months and arrange demonstrations of new equipment from all those companies you’ve been meaning to call since last year. What’s more, don’t forget other salons are likely to be quiet at this time of year too, so take advantage of this and any seasonal discounts they may be offering and book in for some treatments yourself. This is the only true way you can judge the competition, and a visit to a few competitors will enable you to rank all areas of your business against them. Things to look out for include customer service, prices, salon design and most importantly, the quality of their treatments. If there are any areas where your competitors excel, make sure your salon is better. Make a resolution that 2016 be a pinnacle year in your career. Whether you’re thinking of opening your first salon or expanding into a chain, changing the direction of your career or simply learning a new skill, however large or small your challenge, this is the year to make sure it happens! Best wishes for a prosperous 2016,
Taking place over two days, the competition includes awards for Best Bridal Couture Make-up, Best ‘Art & Make-up’ Make- up, Best Simulation Make-up, Best Fantasy Make-up, Best Bridal Couture Hair, Best ‘Art & Make-up’ Hair, Best Simulation Hair and Best Fantasy Hair presented to both professionals and students.
For each make-up professional category, first place award winners will receive £250 worth of professional make-up products, a crystal trophy and certificate. Second and third place award winners in each category will also receive professional make-up products, a crystal trophy and certificate. Hair winners will receive the same value of hair products.
In addition, overall Professional and Student awards will be presented for Editorial/Fashion Artistry, Editorial/Fashion Artistry – Hair, Screen/TV/Simulation and Screen/TV/Simulation – Hair. Overall winners will receive the opportunity to assist the ADCreativ team at a celebrity red carpet event or photoshoot.
The event also offers the opportunity to recognise a leading name in the industry with the NMUA Lifetime Achievement Award.

“Online registration to all of our events has increased massively in recent years,” explains show director Gary Hackett. “It’s the quickest, most convenient way for you to apply for your free tickets, and takes just a couple of minutes of your time, whether you’re at home, in the salon or on the go!”
Registering in advance for free tickets will save you £20 each on the ‘pay on the day’ entry price, plus you’ll receive regular email updates on what’s happening at the show and news on exclusive discounts and special offers.
For those of you who don’t have internet access, don’t worry – the Ticket Hotline is ready to take your calls seven days a week on 01332 227 698.
