MEMBER NEWS Leisure growth at marina
Mercia Marina has submitted plans to more than double the number of holiday lodges on its site. It also wants to provide gym and
sports facilities for boaters and holidaymakers. In two separate planning
applications to South Derbyshire District Council, the marina is seeking consent for 32 more lodges in fields to the north and west of the 24-acre marina lake and an all- weather tennis court, sports pitch, gym, pétanque court, golf putting area and playground. A new wildlife pond, almost the
size of a football pitch, would also be created as part of extensive landscaping plans. Robert Neff, General Manager at
Mercia Marina, said: “The proposed developments and associated landscaping will provide even more opportunities for people to visit us and take advantage of our beautiful natural environment. Even though it would see a significant growth in our holiday lodge provision, the impact will be surprisingly minimal – partly due to the amount of land

here and partly because they would be built over several years.” Mr Neff added that the
development would provide a boost to tourism and the economy, not only for the marina but also for nearby villages, including
New service offers easier commute
Arriva Buses has joined forces with developer IDI Gazeley to ensure people can get easier access to the Magna Park industrial estate, Lutterworth. The new X45 service, which launched last month, will connect Magna Park with Lutterworth, Glen Parva, Narborough Road, Leicester City Centre, Beaumont Leys and Thurmaston, giving employees a greener, cleaner, more affordable way of getting into work. Operating seven days a week, the service has been designed to meet the

needs of the many shift workers employed at Magna Park. As well as providing fast and direct journeys to and from Europe’s largest
dedicated distribution location, the X45 will also offer those employed there the opportunity to make savings using Arriva’s range of multi-journey tickets.
An X45 bus serving Magna Park “We’re delighted to be working with Magna Park to open up access for
the many people employed there,” said Steve Smith, Arriva’s Area Manager, in Leicester. Magna Park is home to 29 different occupiers, with in excess of 8.3
million sq ft of sustainable warehouse floor space. Gwyn Stubbings, Planning Director at IDI Gazeley, said: “This new service
is a very important addition to making Magna Park more accessible and environmentally efficient.”

largest inland marina in Europe, has seen steady and successful growth since it opened in 2008.
Industrial Ancillaries’ improved working environment
An eco-friendly and modern expansion
The first company to invest at Markham Vale, near Chesterfield, has expanded its premises. Industrial Ancillaries secured planning consent last year to improve its headquarters. It now boasts an additional
3,600sq ft of office space, a new training facility, a revamped trade counter, improved workshop, new canteen and welfare areas for staff and a new meetings room. In line with the firm’s focus on
energy efficiency and eco- credentials, the new build features rainwater harvesting and solar photovoltaic panels to minimise CO2 emissions.
