The key to the UK’s logistics and transport industry


Mark Moody, Business Development Manager at Core Management Logistics ( CML), which is based at Magna Park in Lutterworth, explains why the East Midlands is the heart of the logistics and transport industry.


The East Midlands, historically, is the region of choice for many companies when it comes to their transport and logistics requirements. It is home to Europe’s largest dedicated distribution development, Magna Park, the UK division of international logistics giant DHL and many distribution centres for the UK’s leading brands, including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and House of Fraser. The transport and logistics sector is becoming


increasingly important to retailers across the globe, partly as a result of their rapidly-growing ecommerce offering, which has transformed the consumer shopping experience dramatically. Logistics providers have evolved their services to meet


these demands, delivering the goods directly to the customer and, in most part, bypassing stores completely. This growth has forced a review of supply chain resource


requirements. Consumers today have an infinite choice of products at their fingertips and are able to place an order online at 10pm and have the parcel delivered to their doorstep before 10am the following morning. As a result of the excellent air, rail and road links in the


East Midlands, logistics providers in the region are well placed to meet such demands while remaining competitive. East Midlands, Birmingham and Heathrow airports are all
