Week, this year’s quest for eight youngsters to learn the building trade, beginning in August, has seen supervisors Dave King and Gary Long from the Loughborough-based housebuilder visiting local schools. “Initial interest in our apprenticeship opportunities was very positive so we
are excited to get out ‘on the road’ and talk to young people about careers in construction,” said Gary, William Davis’ Plumbing and Electrical Manager. “Training and developing apprentices has enabled us to avoid a skills
shortage and create a talented workforce so by pledging these vacancies we can ensure this successful pipeline continues.” Currently employing 29 apprentices, the William Davis apprenticeship
programme offers traditional craftsmanship training by combining practical, on-site teaching from in-house mentors alongside academic studies at either Leicester College or Loughborough College to achieve an NVQ Level 3. Established for more than 60 years, the scheme has been recognised with
awards from the National Federation of Builders, National Apprenticeship Service, and most recently, the company was highly commended in the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Apprenticeship Awards.
Inspiring charity lunch
Local business leaders were among the guests at an Inspire and Achieve Foundation charity lunch, hosted and supported by West Nottinghamshire College. The lunch was attended by local
business representatives and stakeholders – including The Bishop of Sherwood, the Rt Revd Tony Porter – to hear about the work the foundation does. Founded by College Principal
Dame Asha Khemka, the foundation delivers a range of programmes designed to support young people into employment, including outreach activities, mentoring and work coaching, and offers employability skills training. Guests heard from some of the
young people who are currently being supported by the charity and about the progress they have made.

to support the charity in a number of ways, including the provision of work placements for its growing number of trainees, or by making a donation. Director of the foundation, Pippa
Carter, said: “I find it very inspiring to hear about the achievements these individuals make while being supported by our team.”
