The world of gaming changed dramatically 20 years ago. It became sexy. It got attitude. It moved from poorly-drawn characters and unrealistic figures on relatively slow-moving and simplistic backdrops to something more realistic. In short, it grew up. And the character responsible for dragging gaming into a brave new world was Lara Croft – an icon who was born a young woman and hasn’t aged a day since. Deputy Editor Andy Hibberd has been looking at how gaming became a mainstream business and how important it is today to the regional and national economy.
