Exporting roadshow rolls into town
The Exporting is GREAT roadshow rolled into town last month. In conjunction with the Chamber, UK Trade & Investment's (UKTI) heavyweight event visited Derby, Nottingham and Leicester on its tour of the East Midlands. The visits were part of the 32-tonne roadshow’s nationwide tour which also
“The truck is playing a major part in driving forward the Exporting is Great initiative,
meant stops at Northampton and Lincoln while in the region. By taking to the road, the Government hoped to inspire 100,000 more businesses to trade overseas by 2020. First-time exporters could register their interest in ‘live’ export opportunities using state-of-the-art equipment on board the truck, as well as getting access to tailored support to help them trade overseas. At each stop, international trade advisers were on board to offer face-to-
face advice, expertise and presentations to all types of businesses. The wagon’s journey across the East Midlands included stops at Jubilee
Square, Leicester, The Old Market Square, Nottingham, and the Learning Development Centre at Rolls-Royce, in Derby. In Leicester and Nottingham the exporting opportunities focused on
creative industries while in Derby it was on supply chains, with a session for apprentices and graduates to show the importance of exports. Ian Harrison, UKTI Regional Director in the East Midlands, said: “The truck
is playing a major part in driving forward the Exporting is Great initiative, which is designed to empower UK SMEs to take advantage of the global appetite for British products, skills and expertise in markets around the world. “It was a great coup for us to host the giant mobile business hub for a
whole week - and we stopped off at major venues throughout the East Midlands to ensure we told as many businesses as possible about the excellent opportunities available for products and services from this region. “We can support companies at every stage of their exporting journey –
from identifying real sales opportunities to winning contracts overseas.” David Pearson, the Chamber’s Head of International Trade, said: “Britain is
a net importer. It would be much better for our balance of trade if we were a net exporter. We need to encourage and help more companies to export and events such as the Exporting is GREAT roadshow are a heavyweight way of delivering that message.”
