Over the last few years there has been a quiet revolution in fabric design and this year it has exploded into the Spanish home textiles market….and quite frankly it has left me breathless! I know, I know, I always get overexcited by any new fabrics that come through my door, something my husband just doesn’t get (but then you should have seen his face when he got his latest motorbike a few weeks ago!). Last year it was the watercolour florals and vintage lace, the year before the bright pop colours, but really, this year my suppliers have surpassed expectations. So, I hear you ask, what has happened that’s got me so animated, well in a word “Digital Printing” (OK that’s 2 words)…let me explain. Although printing onto fabric has been around for centuries, even in modern times it has had limits in terms of colour availability, clarity, pattern repeat and extended print runs (have I lost you yet?), however digital textile printing technology is a treasure chest of detailed graphics, unlimited colour palettes and photographic reproduction. Think about a normal home printer, they’ve been digital for donkeys years and we take their colour reproduction for granted. Now scale that up to banners and billboards, the kind of thing that specialist printing companies have also been doing for years. Now take that a step further and the same technology has hit the home textiles market with huge print runs bringing the cost of production down to a level where we ordinary humans can well afford to bring these unique designs with their stunning colours into our homes. And every one of my suppliers that has brought me their 2015 collections has included digital prints; gorgeous colours and amazing print quality on voiles, cottons, linens and soft velvets. Admittedly there are a lot of florals, this certainly seems to be the best way to make the most of the colours available, but the designs are modern and sumptuous and put everything else to shame! In fact, everyone who has come through my door has also been blown away (dare I say, even my husband!) and so far these fabrics are by far my best sellers! So come and see what all the fuss is about… pop to our studio in Benitachell (just outside of Moraira) or if you think your home would benefit from some digital technology, then simply give us a call and arrange your no obligation home visit. Let’s brighten up our homes this summer and join the revolution!
