A long-lost ‘friend’ gets a welcome new lease of life.
Anyone who has lived in Javea for a few years will remember the days when the British Bakery on the Avenida del Pla was a hub of bustling activity. Not only producing great food, it served as one of the focal meeting places in the whole Arenal area. Indeed it was also one of the best landmarks when trying to describe another business or shop to someone, many a conversation went.....”Well you know the British Bakery, park your car near there and go to your right....”
When the original owners moved on, sadly of late the bakery hasn’t been anything near as good as it used to be, and it ceased to be such a landmark. But now great news. The British Bakery & Cafe has reopened and is the latest initiative by Moraira stalwart Brian Mullins to return it to its heyday.
“We want the Bakery to be back to how it was” says Brian. “People would travel great distances for authentic British homemade pies, sausage rolls, delicious cakes and bread. We have worked hard to get it all smart again, and already customers are telling us how good things are. And although we’ve only been open two weeks or so, customers are coming back day after day”.
Congratulations to Brian on a splendid, ‘life saving’ operation. Happy customers queuing to get in when Female Focus arrived. See their main advert on page 10 to find out about their special offer on spit roast chicken.
Teulada Moraira Lions Club present: Another Night of Musical Magic with IL DIVO Another Night of Musical Magic
Tribute Appreciation Act with special guests, DUO INTERMEZZO. Espai La Senieta, Avda de Madrid, 03724, Moraira on 31st May at 7.30 Following a sell-out Fund-raising Concert at Espai La Senieta last year, Teulada Moraira Lions Club is delighted
to be able to bring these artistes back to Moraira for another Night of Musical Magic. The event’s headline Act, IL Divo Appreciation Tribute Band, were formed in December 2008 and, in career terms they hit the ground running, winning Spanish TV´s equivalent of the “X Factor” and releasing their first album to both critical acclaim and commercial success. They now appear regularly at various prestigious venues along Spain´s Mediterranean Coast, where they deservedly enjoy huge popularity amongst both their long-standing fans and new audiences alike. Appearing with “IL Divo”, Duo Intermezzo also have a burgeoning reputation throughout Spain - and also in South America (both members of the duo studied music at the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences in Chile before moving to this country) and Scandinavia. Both acts offer their own distinctive interpretation of a fusion between light classical and popular hits – although whether putting a classical twist on modern greats, like “Mama”, “I Believe”, “Unbreak my Heart”, “Hero” and “Delilah”, or a modern take on immortal classics such as “Nessun Dorma”, neither can be readily pigeon-holed within any specific musical genre. They simply offer wonderful music, beautifully sung.
This concert is not head banging rock ´n roll – more balm for the soul with the occasional tingle down your spine. If music be the food of love, prepare to sit back, close your eyes and be smothered in gorgeously rich, smooth, guilt free chocolate! Tickets for the event are priced at just €15.00 so be sure to secure your seats by contacting T.M. Lions TICKET HOTLINE either by ´phone: (0034) 966 491 917, or email:
